I'm a huge fan of the comic and really wanted to love this show. As it stands, the show is decidedly average. It's a decent enough time pass, but it's no where close to greatness.

To me it seems like a grade school version of the comic. Even though the comic was way over the top, it had a thick layer of subtext and social commentary that seems to be entirely stripped from the show.

Most of the changes made are either worse, or fundamentally alter the story and characters from the comic.

Jesse and Tulip are nothing like the comic at all.

I haven't read the comic in years and may need to re-read but I remember waiting every month to get my Preacher fix. The show, 3 episodes in, should be blowing me away but isn't. I could stop watching and not really miss it-and you are spot on about Jesse, total personality change.

It's far from average. It may be nothing like the comic books(I haven't read it), but it's still the best dc show on now.

It may be the best DC show but if it were like the comics it'd be the best show period.

I like this show it is pretty cool but for me Gotham is a way better show as of now..

I read the comic a long time ago. I'm fine with changes made, hell I'm sketchy on a lot of the details in the comic at this point anyway. The show however, is unbelievably boring. They've stretched about 4 episodes worth of story into 7, and everything in between is just not compelling at all. After this last episode that aired, I've checked out.

It's a damn shame though, I will say, because I find Gilgun absolutely great as Cassidy.

I think you should maybe give it another try. After all, it seems he will now leave, as he did in the comics a lot earlier. Maybe it will not be better, but at least it is a change and that is a chance to make it better?

They always are. I've been enjoying the show. I think the haters have been over dramatic.

I think it's watchable. It's not as good as the comic but it doesn't matter. The comic still exists, either way.

Read the comic, loved it. Watched the series, hating it. They killed the legacy.

I saved up E04-E07 just so I could "get more into it", but it was of no use. The TV-series is garbage. It fails on every aspect the comic had working for it.

And, even if I had never read the comics, this parade of poo wouldn't have much else to offer. It fails on grit, it fails on character and it fails on comedy. I can not even imagine how boring and incoherent this sh*tshow must be for anyone that didn't read the comics.

I love the comic and I find that I am enjoying the show, despite its changes. The only reason I think that they have compacted it like they did was I'm assuming AMC didn't have enough faith in it to succeed long enough to hit every arc from the comic in order, like they have been doing for the most part with Walking Dead. I'm hoping that they don't remove Starr and the Grail and I wish that the show maintained its setting in time of the early 90s because that was integral to how the comic worked so well. Definitely interested to see where it goes next, but I'm not placing huge expectations on it.

I don't agree that they've "compacted" anything. Seven episodes in and it's still basically a prequel to the comic books. They haven't even gotten to the central premise / mission of the comics. It seems like they're so confident that the show will run for six seasons that they can move at a sluggish pace. The only things I can think of that they moved up in the story are Quicannon, and the Saint's origin.

Starr had a cameo early on and the Grail has been hinted at (albeit as "Grail Industries"), so they're definitely feathering those elements in. I'm guessing that will be season 2's arc.

I meant compacting in that everything is basically in the same town, when in the comics it was spread across the country. Quincannon nor the Roots were in Annville in the comics and I can remember when Custer meeting the angels after his churched had burned down and having already met the Saint. It's was also weird seeing Tulip and Cassady hook up so quickly when it took quite a while for that to happen in the comics. Again, I'm liking the series but it's like when I watch Gotham and have to explain to my family how various timelines have been changed for certain characters, it just sits weird with me at times being a comic fan.
