Should I see this movie in Laser Imax or 70mm standard?

I have a choice to see this movie at the Boeing Imax or the Cinerama in Seattle. One is Laser Imax (4k screen with 1.43:1 aspect ratio, larger screen) the other is 70mm standard (roughly 12.5k with a 2.20:1 aspect ratio, still very large screen though not as large). With the Laser Imax I'll be getting to see extra image on the top and bottom of the screen. With the 70mm I'll be seeing the film in a much higher resolution.

Any chance somebody's seen it in both formats?

Only saw it in IMAX. It is definitely worth it.

Who told you that 70mm standard was 12.5 K?

That guide has been popping up on alot of different sites.

Their assertion that 35mm is worth 6k is as big a revelation as their 12/13K for 5/70.

So is their maths that determines a negative that's 3x 5/70mm frame has only 1.5x the amount of pixels. ????

Something has gone wrong there.

The pixel equivalents that are nominally quoted for film are:

low grain 35mm 4perf pulldown- upwards of 2k. (4k is adequate to oversample a 35mm neg)

65mm (70mm) 5perf pulldown- around 6k

70mm is roughly 3x the negative surface area of 35 hence the equivalent jump of 2K to 6k.

15 perf (horizontal) 70mm is 3x the surface area and so translates to 18k.

I don't know where slashfilm are getting their info from. It seems like they are overzealously trying to sell film over digital.

Even Nolan himself says that audiences seeing a 4k digital IMAX presentation aren't really missing anything that a 70mm standard presentation gets.

70mm. More classic.

I watch 70mm AND Digital XD version 4 days apart, and they looked pretty much the same to me. I'm used to looking at 4k media, but didn't see significant improvement in the 70mm IMAX version. The AUDIO at the imax, however, was amazing and worth the ride, right there.

I saw it in IMAX, but I really don't know the difference, and really couldn't tell any difference. It cost me $14.95 though.

what format did you end up watching?

i saw it on laser IMAX twice, i would have loved to have seen it in 70mm... it's a rare opportunity to watch a film projection, i'd take advantage...
