Filmed in Newfoundland, does it take place there as well?

I dont believe it was ever stated but i took the setting as 'Someplace, Alaska'

Most likely. At the beginning it reminded me of Newfoundland.

Never been to Newfoundland but it seemed a fine stand in for Alaska

Im not certain those pretty Terns live in Alaska but what the hell, right?
Fun movie and im going with Alaska

The story takes place in Washington state, which is noted by the license plates of the vehicles.

But the movie was shot in Newfoundland with some establishing shots of the Great Northwest and, in some scenes, CGI mountains in the background.

Who knew? I was guessing Alaska too.
