Why make this movie?

I will try not to be too condescending but what was the rationale for making this movie? The first one was terrible and filled with the most absolutely ridiculous rationalisations and logic ever. The idea that religious people feel persecuted when they make up over 75% of the population is laughable. To be honest I think that the only reason they feel persecuted is that they can see the truth in an "Emperors New Clothes" kind of way but don't know how to set themselves free. They possibly feel backed into a corner.

The company that makes these films knows they have a gullible audience who are happy to pay. It allows them to set the narrative for the arguments about God which are easily refuted and disproven just with the most basic childlike logic.

Like the first film, this is just an incredibly lame marketing video. How can this kind of juvenile nonsense not make any normal person (who is a Christian) squirm with embarrassment.

Unfortunately as long as they are making a prophet (yes, I spelt that correctly) they will keep on making these movies. Is it just me or does the title look similar to the Scary Movie franchise. Well I suppose they are similar in that they are really cheesy and are trying to scare people with illogical nonsense.

Blasphemy: A law to protect an All-Powerful, supernatural Deity from getting it's feelings hurt. NEWSFLASH: If God's not dead he can convince everyone himself. He does not need a group of self righteous narcissists to do it for him.

"Religious people" aren't using the word "persecution". Persecution is what the Nazi's did to the Jews. Atheists are using the word persecution on this board for dramatic effect.

This film is about the unnecessary humiliation of a public school teacher by the administration, and a school board. Which, in fact, has happened on numerous occasions worldwide.

Of course Christians use the word "persecution" all the time, just like there is a "war on christmas". ;)
Rational people would call this "persecution" a loss of undeserved privileges.

But never even once like described in this movie. ;)

Prove it. And prove that Christians on this board are using the word persecution. That's the atheist spin using the word.

just like there is a "war on christmas"

Atheists didn't get any presents? Too bad.

Rational people would call this "persecution" a loss of undeserved privileges.

Translation: 'Atheists used the word persecution to invoke sympathy for their desire to take away rights.

But never even once like described in this movie.

Rarely do these cases go to trial, but it will happen at least once in the future if atheists stay on the attack.

Of course I get presents, christmas is a pagan holiday. ;)

"Translation: 'Atheists used the word persecution to invoke sympathy for their desire to take away rights."

You dont have the right to discriminate other people and you dont have the right to force your disproven myths onto other people.

Those were privileges that are now taken away from you, just like you no longer have the right to own slaves. ;)

"Rarely do these cases go to trial, but it will happen at least once in the future if atheists stay on the attack."

Seriously? I guess you watched too many Chick Tracts when you were young.
People will go to jail for mentioning Jesus, and then they will be publicly executed in front of satan-worshiping Atheists.

Maybe that will be the plot of GND4. :D

14th amendment, Section 1 read it, you lost your privilege to break the 14th amendment not any of your rights

A lot of Christians (not all since i know a few good ones) like to play the victim card. Like street preachers that crash events or stand out side the houses of warship yelling everyone there is going to hell then will call the cops when someone gets fed up & decks them after telling them many times to shut up & leave. or when they say things should be this way or that cause their book says so & you tell them you will never do as their book says they yell "Stop discriminating against me!!!!!" they make the whole faith look bad.

I'm sure that I know more Christians than an atheist would, and not one of them plays the "victim card". Just more bigotry spread by atheists.

I'm not even American and I've still seen this many times when occasionally watching American news. You do not have to look far for Christians claiming they're persecuted, even your politicians (R) says it.

reply

ummm...

all from the extreme liberal media that openly hates Christian conservatives. You really need to keep your hate off the board.

Salon, Huffington Post...are you nuts? What...nothing from the Mother Jones haters?

you're slipping, dude.

Better check with the Bernie Sanders campaigners while you're at it.

Actually these outlets are considered the most accurate news medusa out there, I'm sorry facts hate you

Then why is the movie portraying Christians like they are a persecuted minority in the movie, and that everyone is literally out to get them? The credit scenes at the end of the movie present about 20 different court cases dealing with religion in the United States. Not a single one was about the topic discussed in the movie (I wonder why).

The movie did however list a bunch of court cases with business owners not wanting to do business with LGBT people. I find it funny because this is literally what happened during the Civil Rights Era. You have business that don't want to deal with African Americans. These actions were later found to be unconstitutional and history showed that these people were backwards and racist zealots. If you just swap African Americans with LGBT people, you are now dealing with the same civil rights problems of today. According to this movie it's the business owners who are the victims, not the LGBT community. Until all Christians stop wearing mixed fabrics like a sinner would, they should not be allowed to have problems against LGBT people, but that's just my opinion.

The same reason most films are made : to make money.

Nope, I did not.

Why rant about this movie if you don't like the faith based theme?

Thanks for trying not to be too condescending, though using words like 'ridiculous,' 'laughable' 'gullible' 'lame' 'juvenile nonsense' and 'self righteous narcissists" don't really give the vibe that you are being fair to those who believe in the argument presented in this film.

I would imagine that the filmmakers are expressing their thoughts and opinions in the same way that Michael Moore expresses his thoughts and opinions in his films. These filmmakers chose to make it a narrative. Many agree with Michael Moore, many don't. Many agree with these filmmakers, many don't. Both Michael Moore and these filmmakers have the right to make films. If they receive funding and distribution, they will continue to make films and present their views the way they feel tells their story the best. I don't understand why people ask questions about motivations to make films on IMDB and then answer them with their own opinions. If you have opinions you want a mass audience to agree or disagree with, try making a film. It's much harder than you think and you may respect all who successfully complete this type of project whether you agree with them or not while in the process.

Since you did indicate is you are a Christian or not, I feel the need to respond. I am a Christian and I can see that we are in need to films, books, even blogs that will help us to know how we can respond and relate to persecution. If you read the book of Revelation, you will see that as Christians we will be persecuted for our faith. This is actually indicated in many of the New Testament that in the end time, persecution will be everywhere for Christians. The Old Testament show us stories of Israelites who were also persecuted due to their faith. I watched God's not dead in our theatre and I also purchased the DVD, many of them as gifts for friends. Everyone I gave the movie to were very appreciative. You have a right to your opinion as I do. It was an excellent movie and I am looking forward to God's not dead 2. I am reading a devotional from both movies and it is very inspiring. I am sorry you feel the way you do. I urge you to pick a bible and read about persecution, it has been very prevalent in third world counties and it has already started here... in our government, in our schools, Christians will be next. This is spoken about in the news all the time.

You people are the ones in power. What you need to desperately learn first is to stop persecuting others and understand that the Constitution and law rightly restrict what the government can do in terms of enforcing your goofy beliefs.

This is spoken about in the news all the time.

You are mistaking propaganda for news. They aren't the same. If a single Christian has ever been actually persecuted in the USA, it is an isolated incident and I'd bet you a large sum of money that whatever fools harassed them for their religion got dealt with by the law. As they should have been.

reply

Yeah, your little Revelation myth is an extended drug fantasy (or possibly an allegorical attack on the Roman Emperor Domitian). It also says there will be a bunch of crap like giant human-headed grasshoppers that breathe fire. Why are you paying any attention to such nonsense?
