The two women in the control room are awful
Seriously. It's not even like I'm just apathetic to them, I actually started hating them before the first challenge ended.
I'm sure having a character that monitoring everything and occasionally screwing around with things could be at least be fairly interesting, maybe even actually creepy if done well, but it was just executed in the worst way possible. They come off less like evil controllers of the players' fate and more like two teen girls sitting in a movie theater who think they're funny and subsequently refuse to shut up. That's about the amount of interest they show, too.
They didn't seem like they were even trying to be scary, they missed being funny by a long shot and missed being entertaining by an even longer one. I'm not going to say that the show would be scary without them there, but it definitely would be closer to it without those two chiming in every fifteen seconds, and a good, creepy or funny (I honestly don't know what the hell they're even going with on this show anymore) host could have done wonders. But instead they took the easiest and most obvious way out with the hosts, and it didn't fit, and it sucked.
Heck, I'd say this show could have done fairly well without hosts. Sound is important in horror; silence works well for tension. Have the instructions written on the walls in fake blood or something. Cliche? Yes. Obnoxious? Not as much as they were.
