Tom Cruise will reunite with "Mission Impossible 3" director JJ Abrams to star in Paramount's new "Star Trek" movie titled "Star Trek Legacy". Abrams has previously directed two of the three 'Kelvin universe' Star Trek movies. Previous Star Trek writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman are scripting. Kurtzman, who has been overseeing Paramount's current Star Trek television shows, will also produce with Abrams.
Filming will commence later this year after production finishes on Cruise's eighth "Mission Impossible" film - "Dead Reckoning Part II."
Further details of the new "Star Trek" film are currently being kept under wraps, but sources tell THR that Chris Pine and the rest of the cast from the previous three JJ Abrams produced Star Trek films are expected to return to star with Cruise, along with several cast members from previous Star Trek films and shows.
