Wonderful aspect of what virtual reality can do for us today in the world. It has a complex idea of what "Other-life" is supposed to do for you. The creator of the drug is named Ren and she created this drug to allow a person to have virtual reality experiences within their mind. The main reason she created this though was to bring back her brother from a coma after a snorkeling accident he hit his head on a rock under water and slipped into a coma. her whole purpose during the movie was to wake her brother up. She had a partner named Sam and his main goal for virtual reality was to punish criminals and have them trapped in their own mind by using this drug on them which would help with overcrowded prisons which Ren doesn't support. After an accident with Ren's co worker after using the drug without her consent she was told that he died and Ren was faced with two options either doing time in prison or to go into a solitary confinement for one year in Otherlife.
In conclusion, she was deceived by her partner Sam by telling her that Danny was dead when he actually wasn't and the reason for this was because he wanted to make money and to use his idea about keeping inmates trapped within their own mind. Ren's main goal was her brother but after spending one year in solitary confinement she had some kind of nightmare about her brother dying which when she came back from Otherlife she decided to pull the plug on her brother and let him be in peace, while Sam just wanted money she just wanted to save her brother but she eventually came to terms with that, that she can't save him. The movie gives insight about what a small sample of drug can alter our minds into a different state as well as what our minds can do.
