I mean, what kind of an idiot ...

... walks into a huge, dense field of grass higher than a man's head in the first place, without taking some kind of measure to ensure he could find his way out? Cal and Becky didn't even go in together holding hands. That's the very least I'd have done, to ensure we didn't lose each other.

Before I went in, I would have searched the church property and especially that truck to see if there was some rope that I could attach to the car for a life line. Barring that, they could have gathered up some rocks, sticks, anything to mark their way out.

Or how about this? They were on a long trip, surely they had some luggage and supplies in the car. Why not break off the antenna and tie a piece of clothing to it so that one of you could hold it up above the top of the grass for a beacon?

Didn't these peoples' parents read Hansel and Gretl to them at bedtime when they were kids?

When you don't know you are starring in a horror movie, you tend to take it easy.

I have been in tall grass fields... taking it easy as they did... And I am fine. Of course, it didn't star in a horror flick.

I once saw a guy who emptied his bags and made a small trail behind him as he walked towards some field.... I gave him a quarter.

reply

No you would have not done all that.

Anyone would just walk in. It's just grass and the kid sounded close. Whatever. Go in. Get kid. Leave. Simple.

It's not like they knew they were walking into a supernatural field from hell.

Grass fields aren't dangerous in real life. Unless you're below a creationists, there's really no risk of getting lost in one. It's not like they knew that the field was some paranormal reality warp so how could they have possibly known?

reply

Yup, I agree with all the other posts here. Yes, it sounded like the kid was lost, but also pretty close. Under normal circumstances they could have hopped in, led the family out and then been on their merry way.
I will say that the boyfriend latter on suspected something was off so he started tying the grass together. That didn't work. So, correct me if there was something showing otherwise, but we don't even know if a rope or whatnot would have actually worked.

Nothing they did would have worked. The sun moved as did the building that Tobin saw, the grass that Travis knotted, un-knotted itself, etc. The field was malevolent and supernatural.
