These kids didn't play video games?

I'm kind of surprised we never saw these kids play Atari, ColecoVision or Intellivision. Or at least play an arcade game somewhere.

Jonathan complains at one point that his dad only took Will to baseball games, never to things that Will was interested in - like the arcade.

Most middle class families could afford an Atari, but that didn't mean you would get to play whenever you want. Most middle class families back then had just one big (for then) TV in the living room. If you had a TV in your bedroom, you were the town's more well-to-do families. So with only one TV in the house and two parents who have their own TV watching agendas, the kids played Atari when the parents said they could.

But yeah, I'm kinda surprised we haven't seen them playing in an arcade yet. That was kind of a big thing back then.

While there were arcade games here and there in my childhood, I never owned any videogames myself. My parents refused to buy me any. If it was too expensive or if they just hated the idea of my sitting on my ass and playing games, I don't know. When I was old enough to afford one myself, I had lost interest. And seeing how much time people spend on World of Warcraft and stuff like that, I'm glad I'm not addicted. The point is; not all children have parents willing to buy them one. But I don't see why they shouldn't gather around a pinball machine or something like that in a public place.

well in this case I guess it was because they where busy finding their friend from day one..

i hear season 2 will feature Intellivision prominently.

Intellivision had a better football game, but not having prime titles hurt sales.

1982 and 1983 were the big years for Atari 2600.

Of course, that was for families with money.

More than just the historical aspects, let's remember these child actors are not from the actual 80s - yes I'm being captain obvious here - and, if you've ever seen a modern child try to play an old console and not give up in frustration, you have seen it all.

*sees the latest season 2 trailer and is not the least bit surprised to see the kids going a little crazy over a classic arcade game*

There could be several reasons why they didn't show them playing video games in the first season (obviously they are the type of kids that would really be into them), but eventually we were going to get to that.

Looks like they saw OP's thread! As in the second season, the first time we see them together playing Dragon's Lair in a arcade!
