Why not make a proper adaptation of the game, instead of a frankly dull and rote 'seen it all before' story about a bloody GT-obsessed *gamer* who becomes a Formula One driver?
Why even make movies based of racing games? There is already a bunch of movies about racing and most racing games have little to no story and or characters so i just don't see the point tbh. Maybe Sony needs to launder some money.
Good film by a good director and A list leads. I'm not saying a racing movie would be bad, I just think they went this (bizarre) route to draw in non-gamer fans.
I'm the one with shit memory here. Btw, I'm not saying racing movies are bad. But apart from one or two, I just don't think they're really that profitable (anymore)
Haven't said that, it's still a weird ass route to go though
Actually... none of racing movies make profit: Rush, Tokyo Drift, FvF.
Tokyo Drift was bomb, despite good review. Rush and FvF barely broke even. But GT has a benefit: as a commercial, box office isn't that important, the most important thing is to make people want to buy the game.
When Michael Bay made Armageddon, toy company told him: "If a vehicle has weapon, it will sell more."
That is why the vehicle has Gatling gun.
Armageddon had "biggest shot" producer and director, they still care how to sell toy.
You want to tell me a movie base on a game, they both publish by the same company, producers wouldn't care the movie's impact on the game's selling number?
Ron Howard's "Rush" is one of the best movies of the new century, in my opinion. But, that's because Howard's best films are, by far, his docudramas. And, the characters are so compelling, you are genuinely concerned about what happens to them. And, the racing scenes are so great!
Exactly. Rush & Ford v Ferrari are absolutely fantastic. And imo most of that has to do with the fact that they're both director driven projects. Pun intended.
This however is a "studio movie". They made the decision to base it on real life events instead of the actual video game
I'm not saying that's bad though.
A good writer/director would make a great movie with that concept. But it's still a weird ass, head scratching route to go though
Why don't they make it like "Tron" or something where the gamer gets pulled into the video game? Throw us a bone here, folks! This thing screams "Late Summer Release" all too loudly.
