Do you think Kim Basinger was not the best for Elena?

Kim always came off as playing such innocent characters to me, and has a real good girl look about her.

If they got someone like Sharon Stone, Sigourney Weaver, Linda Fiorentino, or someone like that, I thought it would be a better choice.

What do you think?

Have to wait and see..

Were there any pictures taken of Kim Bassinger on set?

None that I saw...I should edit this...none that I saw of her in character...there were a few of her, looking like her.

When reading the books, before anything was done on screen, I always pictured Michelle Pfiefer in the role as Elena. But, I'm very curious to see how Kim Basinger portrays here.

"One cries because one is sad. For example, I cry because others are stupid, and that makes me sad"

reply

Really...Kim at 63, is a little old to be playing Elena..and Michelle is 58..Christian was 15, so I would assume Elena would have been middle 30's..add 12 years..Christian 27, almost 28..Elena, a well preserved 47.

reply

I suggested Sigourney Weaver and she is 67. But the character is suppose to be old while Christian is an adult. But I think it's okay to make the character a little older, since Sigourney Weaver would be worth it, since she is a good choice, at least IMO.

Kim will be portraying Elena in her 40s, she can just about pull it off i reckon!

reply

Dr. Flynn is married with young twins....I see him maybe 10 years older than Christian...so 38..40..Hugh is 41....Jamie is 33...and he is supposed to be 28 in the second book.

Michelle Pfeiffer was my hoped for hire as Elena. One of my favorite Michelle movies, dark/depressing but underrated White Oleander. If she had brought some of that intensity?, still look forward to this movie and try not to "it should have been" after the fact. Eric Johnson from The Knick, good casting.

Kim Basinger as she was in White Oleandr was my thought as well.

You mean Michelle in White Oleander?

I also pictured Michelle Pfeiffer as Elena. I think she would've been the perfect choice!

Kim is a good actress she can pull off the part acting-wise. But Elena is 40 and Kim is 63, I mean that's a 23 year age gap. Couldn't they find a gorgeous 40 year old blonde actress in all of Hollywood? I'm surprised by her casting.

reply

No because most of us in our 40's look like we are in our late 20's/early 30's. I think they wanted to contrast the age difference. 

I think Kim is absolutely perfect for the role!

reply

I think its a great idea to have Kim in this film it will be like a nice homage to 9 1/2 weeks and means she approved the unofficial remake of that film similar to Faye Dunaway getting a small part in the 90s version of the Thomas Crown affair.

What makes you think that?

reply

If she looks anything like that https://d.ibtimes.co.uk/en/full/1485678/fifty-shades-grey-kim-basinger.jpg?w=400
she can pull it off.

I had initially thought Sharon Stone would have been good, and suggested her in another thread on the subject. Another actress I think would fit is Connie Nielsen, she's 51 in real life.
