Anybody else really dislike Brida?
Constantly, yelling, screaming, sulking.
No Thanks.
Brida is awesome.I wish more women like her existed nowadays. She can take care of herself, calls Uthred on his *beep* not jealous and doesn't follow like a dog.
She has lots of character and the actress is doing an amazing job.
I wish more women like her existed nowadays.
Exactly. Someone here might need new better friends if that's what they think of women are like haha
shareI'm sure there are,but there are plenty of the other kind as well... (in fact there are lots of kinds of people be they male or female, I was not generalizing).
shareI disliked her at the beginning, but after Episode 7 I absolutely hate her. She let Guthrum's men into Winchester, knowing full well they would run amok, raping, killing, pillaging.
Any woman who can knowingly inflict that kind of suffering on other women, or be complicit in inflicting it is not worthy to be called a women. She is a vicious, evil, over-sexed bi*ch.
She is who she is...she grew up a pagan with very few manners. I don't have a problem with her. She is immature and speaks her mind. In other words, she is not unlike many people in this world.
shareshe grew up a pagan with very few manners.
Can't stand her. LOL I think she is rather one-dimensional. Any character, but in particular a woman, without any softness, is hard to buy. She certainly has no compassion for anyone but herself. She doesn't seem to be able to understand Uhtred's needs at all. I am a big fan of Cornwell (I'm a professional editor and writer) but he doesn't write female characters or even ABOUT women well. They are all one dimensional. An example is what the screenwriters did with Mildreth. Which I loved. Cornwell hardly gives her a passing mention. Uhtred talks about her like she's a piece of luggage. But the series spent 20 minutes weaving this beautiful interaction between them as they initially come to know one another.
sharein the books Uhtred is exceedingly dislikeable, Brida hated Uhtreds need to retake Bebbenburgh, and his association with the christians, who in the main of his books are unreasonable and generally disagreeable prats (nothing changed over 1,200 years....) She just wants to get back to the real people (the danes).
I suppose Brida is being used as the foil for the dislike as so far Uhtred comes across as alright, and generally in tv/film having a nasty lead character may not work to well.
Still early days for him to get nasty...
Uthred was a intresting choice for a hero, because he's not that likeable imo
BG portrays King Alfred as "unlikeable" but Uthred isn't any more likeable
Humankind cannot bear very much reality. ~T.S. Eliot
Never read the books, but from the show it seems both are unlikable to certain extent, Uhtred being without filters to his emotions, with a too strong sense of justice tied to those emotions (and with the downfalls and blind sightedness that comes with); Alfred as a schemer, plots within plots that nothing is as it seems, justice is just a prop.
In a way they complement each other.

So far, I think Brida is frickin awesome. She's right to argue with Uthred and be pissed at him; he's overconfident and hasty, he's making mistake after mistake, and he won't listen to reason. And yet she's sticking by him and pulling his chestnuts out of the fire because she loves his reckless ass. How can you not like Brida? What, is she not smiling and batting her eyelashes enough? She's trying to save her best friend from his own foolishness.
shareI like both Brida and Mildreth. Brida speaks her mind, and she wouldn't be shy about calling Uhtred "arseling".
AVADA KEDAVRA!!!
Are you kidding?? She's one of the few women so far that I DO like! She has guts, THINKS, speaks her mind, lets no one tell her how to be, kisses NO MAN'S ASS... Hell, she's a rock star...
Now, Aelswith, Alfred's wife, THERE'S a nasty cow...
Oh, there will be plenty characters to hate in this series, but Brida? Brida deserves her own place in Valhalla.

I can't stand her for all of the things the OP mentioned. The fact she looks like a caveman doesn't help any.
He who makes a beast of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man.
If you were kidnapped as a young girl by vikings and raised as one you'd be yelling and screaming too.
