I'm going to go out on a limb and say that it even dethrones the original star wars trilogy, BY FAR. I honestly felt like I was on a roller coaster of emotions while watching this movie, no movie even comes close to how I felt the entire time. The acting, action, plot, cinematography, and score were all on point and surpassed anything I've ever seen in my life. This movie deserves those billions at the box office, and more.

Apart from Empire, I didn’t see what made the other two films in the trilogy all that masterful, particularly Return of the Jedi. I’d say the influence, nostalgia and the fact that a magnificent film like Empire is part of this trilogy makes these two SW entries so renowned. When it comes to other amazing trilogies, I believe the Russo Brothers had already dethroned many revered trilogies with the Captain America trilogy (even if they didn’t necessarily direct the first one). The sheer excitement, depth, size and intensity of these films is mighty. Plus from a technical aspect, Winter Soldier and Civil War are a masterclass.
In regards to Infinity War being the best Sci-Fi pic, naturally there’ll be tons of disagreement over this. And although I agree with everything you said about it in terms of what it has to offer, I hesitate to call it the best sci-fi film simply because it’s so much more than that (it can be called an action movie as well as a fantasy movie). Also, there are a number of great Sci-Fi films that I wouldn’t exactly describe as so much superior to IW as other cinephiles would, but they feel more, idk, representative of the genre.
IW is not only a great Marvel film and CBM, but imho a superb film in any regard.
Dude. I agree with everything you said. I love Star Wars and Empire is one of the best films ever made but the original trilogy as a whole is super overrated and I’d even go so far as to say Return of the Jedi is mediocre at best. The throne room stuff is brilliant, but is that worth the other hour and a half of boring filler nonsense? Barely.
Infinity War is a modern masterpiece. The scale, buildup, acting, stakes, pace, action, emotion, and even humor are all on point. Aside from a few fair critisisms such as a few small plot holes (what movie doesn’t have them) and the fact it jumps between several groups early in the movie (it takes ridiculously long to get back to Tony and Strange), most complaints people have don’t hold much water imo. And even that one is kind of necessary for this kind of storytelling. People just don’t pay enough attention, don’t understand what this movie is, or both.
As far as trilogies go, why don’t we throw in IW with TWS and CW and call it the Russo trilogy since they didn’t direct first avenger. If you do it that way they made arguably one of the best trilogies ever, right there with but just below The Dark Knight Trilogy. Again this is all my opinion.
Overall, I give IW a 9/10 and it snuck into my top 15 of all time. Best sci movie ever? I’d say no and I’d give that honor to the first Terminator (yes I like it more than the 2nd one, I know I’m in the minority on that).
I loved Avengers: Infinity War but it is not in the running or greatest sci-fi movie. The greatest sci-fi movie of all time is 2001:A Space Odyssey.

Ehh, not exactly. Star Wars is kind of in its own category of being Lord of the Rings in space. Avengers is closer to Star Trek. The Star Trek films have elements of fantasy, primarily 1 and 5, but the rest are dominantly sci fi. Even 2001: A Space Odyssey has elements of fantasy because we're talking about a monolith of a mysterious origin that has no scientific basis.
