You can only recommend 10 MCU flicks for someone to watch before Infinity War

Let's say you meet someone who has never seen any of the MCU films but wants to be caught up with the Infinity Stones storyarc in preparation for watching Infinity War. You can only choose ten MCU films for them to watch. What ones do you choose? Here's my list (keep in mind, this is NOT a top ten favorite MCU movies list but a way to convey the most important story elements):

Iron Man 2 - Intro to Black Widow, SHIELD, War Machine, etc.

Captain America The First Avenger - Intro to Cap and the Tesseract

Avengers - Intro to Thor, Loki, Asgard, and the Avengers team

Winter Soldier - Intros Falcon, fall of SHIELD, reveals Bucky is Winter Soldier

Dark World - Intros the Aether and the concept of the Infinity Stones

Guardians of the Galaxy - We get a backstory of Thanos, intros the Orb, and talks more about
Infinity Stones

Age of Ultron - Reveals Loki's scepter has the Mind Gem, more Infinity Stones stuff, intros Vision and Scarlet Witch

Dr Strange - Intros magic side of MCU and the Eye of Agomotto

Civil War - Avengers split, intros Spider-Man and Black Panther, War Machine is crippled

Black Panther - I assume it introduces the Soul Stone (if it doesn't I'll replace it with Ragnarok)

I think Avengers and Guardians would be enough, but Age of Ultron seems like it might need to be tossed in because of Vision.

I agree with this if it's a list of ten. You could probably cut out Winter Soldier, Dark World and Black Panther without an IW viewer feeling lost.

reply

Maybe, but Civil War has no sense without Winter Soldier.

From the OP list, I would take out Dark World for Thor 1 (Loki needs to be introduced or Avengers will not be the same). And Iron Man 1 instead of Black Panther. The Idea is to have the origin of all the main heroes. After all this is the story of the heroes not of the stones or the final villain.

reply

None of them

Iron Man

Iron Man 2

Thor

The Avengers

Guardians of the Galaxy

Avengers: Age of Ultron

Ant-Man

Doctor Strange

Thor: Ragnarok

Black Panther

Captain America Trilogy

Well, I couldn’t do just 10. I believe knowing the origins of every Avenger and the events that lead up to their involvement in Infinity War (especially Thor’s) is what ultimately counts. And bearing in mind Wakanda will play a big part in Infinity War, then Black Panther should be added. We still don’t know how big (or small) Scott Lang’s role in this movie will be, however it’s been speculated the quantum realm will be of significance in future MCU films

You forgot Ant-Man.

reply

Ant-Man is in Civil War so he's properly introduced. His movie didn't deal with any Infinity Stones, so it isn't important to that arc.

reply

I see. Fair enough. You just need to mention Ant-Man in the Civil War remarks in your original post.

ya I guess Id just go with My Top 10 favorite ....But as you pointed out theres probably a better 10, The MCU films have all revealed Key plot points and crucial Events that build up to Infinity War, You'd definitely need to watch the MCU films that feature the Infinity Stones, those are a must, Then The GOTG films would be next most important since they have Thanoes, ...it would be tough to choose after that...I'm sure if someone really took the time and wrote down all the Important things and Key Links building to Infinity War, I'm sure you could get a Definitive "Top 10"...But really it would be best just to watch all of them in Order of course...

But heres my top 10 Favorite MCU films and probably what I would recommend
1. The Avengers--10/10
2. Captain America: The Winter Soldier--9.5/10
3. Captain America:Civil War-9/10
4. Guardians Of The Galaxy--8.5/10(Maybe 9)
5. Thor 3: Ragnarok-8.5/10
6. Thor--9/10
7. Doctor Strange--8.5/10
8. Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2-8/10
9. The Avengers Age Of Ultron--7/10
10. Ant-Man--8/10

*IMO Iron Man Is The best Overall MCU Movie, Just not my favorite
*IMO Civil War Has The Best Story and Plot ever in a CBM
*The Avengers AOU is the biggest Disappointment of All Time(NOt A terrible movie, But the biggest Disappointment in movie history)

Iron Man 3 is the biggest dissapointment in MCU. AoU is not that bad.

Completely agree about IM3....I have the Mandarin Twist ranked up there With the "Martha" scene and Letos Joker as the biggest creative failures in comic book movie history....

But for Me personally I just can't Put IM3 over AOU as The biggest disappointment, IM3 is probably a worse movie than AOU....

Given my expectations for AOU, No movie ever Disappointed like AOU....

The Avengers is my favorite CBM ever, AOU was my most anticipated movie ever....and for me, AOU did not even get close to the quality as The Avengers and had almost NO "Epic" or "Oh My God" type moments...Ultron was a terrible Villain, The Hulk was Criminally Under Used....

IM3 was NOT good, It was Disappointing, It had a truly awful Twist, But It could never disappoint me like AOU did....AOU was The Sequel to be favorite CBM ever, and it was "An Avengers" movie for Gods sake and Whedon just Blew it...

thats another reason why it Disappoints so much, Because at the time, I actually believed Whedon coming back was a great thing, after The Avengers came, I basically gave Whedon Sole credit for the success of The movie, So when he signed on to do AOU and got even more control, My HYPE got even higher....

I now know this was a HUGE mistake, Whedon simply couldnt do it by himself, With The first Avengers movie, Yes he rewrote the script but he had Kevin Feige there Mandating everything he wanted and Whedon had to run everything by him...Looking back now, It was probably a 50/50 Split between Whedon and Feige why The Avengers turned so great, Once Whedon got control with AOU, He proved he couldnt do it by himself, forcing Feige to have to come in in post production and force Whedon to fix and cut stuff out.

then we get Whedons work on JL, Which is just awful and basically was the same rehashed jokes and setup as he used in 2 Avengers movies...

anyways, IM3 was a huge Misfire, But for me personally its just not as disappointing as AOU
