Does anyone else think this might be a great big mess?

Both "Ultron" and "Civil War" had too many characters and unfocused plots, and I keep hearing rumors that they're throwing every damn Marvel character they can think of into the mix and are introducing new ones.

That's not a formula for a good movie, it sounds like a formula for repeating their previous mistakes.

Of course.

Hoping it'll be good, but I dunno. My bar is pretty low for a good movie, though. I usually don't criticize too much. But too many characters is a recipe for disaster.

In the end, it depends on the quality of the script. You can have a good or great movie with many characters if the writing is good.

That being said, Ultron is an average film. Not great, but not bad either. Civil War is great. The last two Captain America films are my favorite in the MCU.

Forget about the circus of characters and huge story which, while teased, hasn't had any proper build up whatsoever. This is a story that needs an entire tv season of build up to be properly executed. The action of Winter Soldier and Civil War looks like total butt with it's jerky camera, sped up frame rates and tossing laws of physics out the window. I see no reason to believe these directors won't be serving up more of the same.

I wish I could express myself as well as you. You're wrote down everything I thought too.

^And here I thought the action in the last two Captain America movies was among the most exciting and spectacular in comic book movie history. Evidently so much of those movie's praise has gone to the action. But we just probably don't know what's quality, so butt opinions... aye? As for proper build up, they've spent half a decade teasing this movie. Yes, teasing a big event like this isn't the same as seeing it developed in a TV show. Nevertheless, I can confidently say that most people have had their excitement over this movie built up enough; they've had plenty of time to embrace what's to come. So, demanding a longer, and what you feel is a more "proper" lead up to this movie (which by the looks of it you'll shun it anyway), feels fruitless at this point.

Anyhow, the possibility of it being a mess is, well, a possibility. However, the Russos might prove once again they don't mess around. 😁 I mean think what you'd like about Civil War, but a great deal of its praise went to how well it managed to balance all its characters and not feel convoluted. And when it comes to this movie, it will most definitely be packed with numerous Marvel characters - many we've seen, and hopefully several we haven't seen. Now I don't know about you, but, isn't that what most fans should expect? For some simply seeing all of these characters together is all they could ask for.

It can be a recipe for disaster alright (note: plenty of these appearances have been rumored to be brief anyway), but I think the Russo bros can properly handle this many characters based on their two previous offerings and past work. The script can obviously be the most important ingredient in a movie (most of the time), but worthy script or not, I feel the Russos are ultimately the perfect team to helm a movie of this magnitude for the reasons previously stated. And if there's one thing I'm positive of, is they won't half-ass this... Besides, even if the movie unsurprisingly gets universal acclaim like Civil War and The Winter Soldier, inevitably there's always those who will have their issues with it.

I thought Civil War juggled its multiple characters well with the exception of introducing Spider-Man (they lucked out in that he's a likeable character anyway).

I don't think this is going to be a mess at all. There is a high chance that this could be the greatest superhero film ever.

Yep
