Behavior on purge night ? realistic or not ?

So, it's an 'all crimes permitted night' and all people do is getting outside with masks and knives, behaving all crazy and weird...wtf ?

none of them rob banks, loot stores, steal cars, traffic drugs and so on.... no, instead they put Christmas lights on cars, wear masks, act stupid and die quickly.

i know that this is a dystopian future, so i must suspend disbelief but this behavior of people on purge night doesn't seem realistic at all in the conditions given by the movie.

Yeah, I have to say, of course you must suspend your disbelief when watching pretty much any fictional film, etc. but this entry in the series did leave me thinking about the amount of Purgers going out to kill. I'm not convinced that many people would become ultra-violent mass murderers for one night just because they're allowed. I'm a very cynical person, but my faith in humanity hasn't sunk quite that low to buy it.

But of course, in an action/thriller/horror, watching people looting and stealing isn't as scary or exciting as watching crazed killers.

Definitely not. Most people would either be more focused on protecting themselves or robbing, drugs, sadly rape, and more common every day crimes. I doubt so many people would just suddenly for a couple of hours because psychopathic serial killers just because it is legal.

That's what has bugged me about all three movies. If, on Purge night, you put on a mask, grab a machete, and hit the streets, you are just as likely to be killed as you are to kill a random stranger -- and that stranger is likely to be some other loony with a mask and machete. Is it really worth the risk?

And really, is some silly grudge you have against a co-worker enough to make you seek them out on Purge night and kill them?

The movie says that 99% of people simply stay home that night. I'd think that that's just not good enough. You gotta have strong locks on every door and window and an arsenal of weapons at hand as you hole up in your safety room.

Because it's treated like a holiday.

Well, they do, but they're can't really keep certain stolen items once the purge ends. Stuff like homicide, rape, joyrides and other experiences cannot be given back.

Lol. What the heck? Are you serious? That was just about the most unrealistic portrayal of that scenario possible. If they took the most realistic approach then you would have a million people trying to break into a bank and barely a spike in murder rates,

First purge for me would be all about stealing as much stuff as possible

get yourself set financially for life

i agree that blatantly bringing drugs in over the border would be an awesome thing to do on purge night

I would go to Canada, every year, a short holliday untill the horrors were over.
