Would the show be better if it was set up as younger characters ?

Granted I'm older than the shows characters but one thing that turned me on the show is that these people are in their early thirties and seem to act like they are fresh out of college millennials. I wonder if it would work any better with 20 somethings.

Thoughts?

The fact of the matter is that, people in there early 30s don't live like people that were in their early 30s back then. It's a very different world now. It has nothing to do with failing to take responsibility or not living the way a typical adult would be living, but the reality we face today is different. Not so much the circumstances, like employment, and children, but in general it's just different.

Everyone I know acts like these characters.

I'm 30 and I have a few friends that I can say are exactly the kinda people Gus and Mickey are, maybe not a drug or sex addict, but just the way they act. I think it actually works better with 30+ year olds. Everyone says you're suppose to get your act together by 30 and there's something wrong with you if you're still 30 and have some sort of arrested development. I just feel that the times have changed. You can still be 20 when you're 30. Playing videogames and going out to parties aren't as looked down on now. There was a scene in the first episode where Mickey was ranting to the Bliss Room people about wondering if getting married, having kids and posting Facebook pictures of their kids is it.I think that's how many people at 30 feel these days.
