Chris Potter

Is Chris Potter going to be in the series? I simply hate it when they tell one story, then move forward and go a different direction, especially after the same story line continued through several movies. Now they are doing a series and from what I can tell they are changing the story, if they pull this, I will likely not watch this series after the first episode. Granted the last two movies I was not able to watch due to the Hallmark channel not being apart of the service we had previously, however the Hallmark channel is apart of the package we have now, I'm hoping to catch up.

Yes, from the previews, it looks like a doctor is a love interest. The credits have the actress who plays his character's daughter (now at least of high school age) in the cast playing "Lori Russell" again, so they cannot just forget about the dad. I assume he would die, which is pretty sad (after all, the movies started with the kids all upset about their mother dying!) for an overall lighthearted series.

I don't see the son (who was married in the last movie, I believe, so his absence is easily explained) but Bailee Madison plays "Grace Russell." Is this a new character or was it brought up in a past film?

reply

Grace is the baby that Cassie and Jake had. The tv guide in today's paper says the show is about newly widowed Cassie adjusting to life. Too sad.

I get that Chris Potter couldn't be in the series. But I think we could have accepted it if this Denton guy just played Jake Russell instead of killing Jake. Bummer.

Yes, Hallmark's website has her as Cassie's daughter.

That would mean the daughter would have had to grow up into a teenager, which is a significant amount of time. Was there a daughter born in one of the later movies?

reply

No. They just aged the kid like a lot of tv shows do.

Yes, Jake and Cassie's daughter Grace was born in one of the later movies.

It seems the TV show will be doing a 5 year time jump ahead after the last Good Witch film, thus explaining how the daughter can now be a teenager.

Okay. I checked. The baby was there in 2012.

It's three years later and the girl is 15 or so. So, more like a decade. I only saw parts of the last film. If the daughter aged to 10, okay. Still seems more than five years. I'm not a stickler. Just seemed a bit off.

ETA: A promotion does say "about 10" years past. Which is about right.

Killing off Jake is a big slap in the face to The Good Witch fans. I won't be watching.

reply

This is probably why I won't watch. Having Jake die is a terrible decision. They could have simply recast the part if Chris Potter couldn't commit. Makes me sad because I loved the first few movies.

reply

Potter is the reason I started watching the movies in the first place. I had never heard of Bell.

But, I came to like EVERYONE involved.

However, I read that Potter is not a part of the new series due to prior commitments...for me, that's a deal-breaker.

sounds like jake died somehow

I agree - I've watched every one of the Good Witch movies and have always loved Chris Brown - first, does anyone know why knows why he's gone? Given that there are so many fans, wouldn't it b e a great idea to let everyone know why he's gone? I've been watching tonight's show for over an hour and still I'm not sure how "Jake" died. When a show go so far as to get so many people SO involved with the characters, wouldn't it show the most respect to those fans to give them a little more back story?

I was upset like you all were. I still watched it and it was sad but
It's going to be weird though I am going to give it a chance I think you all should too. I'm a huge fan of Chris's and I will still watch it.

Time to bring him back!

reply

Starfire, they can't cause he has a contract for heartland and they
Are probably going to filming soon. The new season is April 8. I like him in this show.

reply

Right. I looked up Heartland and the show has been on the air since 2007?? He must have been filming the Good Witch movies while on hiatus. Unfortunately, we've been looking forward to "Good Witch" movie number 8, but no longer a go. :(

reply

If you watch episode one although it doesn't explain how it is obvious that Jake is dead. In fact at around 34 minutes in Cassie uses the words "Since Jake died"
