....I found it very believable. Kids do dumb stuff, because their brains are still developing. In fact, the human brain does not fully develop until we reach our 20s.

shareIf you're children act like this at all, you should get them tested. They will most certainly be found to be borderline autistic.
No child with access to TV or movies would miss that a gun has a safety. No child who is reasonably intelligent would struggle to understand the concept of hiding. No 10 year old child can ride in a car day after day and not know that it has to be put in park. Willing to drive 80 MPH in the dark? Yeah.....no.
There are simply way too many idiotic moments among these children to assume they are normal. They don't even cry at the sight of watching a woman get her head blown off? They don't scream for help the minute the sheriff arrives? These would be normal reactions from a 10 year old.

but, I remember me and my buddy seeing a kid speeding and losing control of his car and the kid getting decapitated when he was ejected from the car after hitting a mesquite tree...we were 10
the kids body was mangled in the tree and his head was in the gravel paved road...he was doing 100mph in a 25 zone...I didn't even have nightmares...very surreal experience...the guy crashed 50 yards from where we were...me and my friend are normal people with families now and I wouldn't want my kids seeing that...kids imo are weaker minded these days
I agree, I think they over did it and made the kids a little to naive/dumb. Hell, I was a stupid kid but even I wouldn't point an assault rifle at a friend holding a vest with the intention to shoot him. Nor repeatedly look down the barrell while shaking it. It's 2015, most kids are a smidge bit more wiser then that.

He wasn't dumber than most kids his age though. He was wise enough to not have a finger on the trigger when he looked down barrel, and wise enough to not point the gun at his when his friend when he wasn't wearing the vest.

I think that scene was supposed to be funny...
There's also the matter of the sheriff starting his day drunk & we later find he uses meth, which has reduced his intelligence to the same level as the boys', so throughout the film, we sort of have this whole "stupid vs. stupid" thing going on.
Folks around here laughed at it.

Starting his day drunk? He had one bottle of beer. And what do you mean with reduced his intelligence? That was obviously cocaine and not meth. Besides, I never heard of cocaine reducing one's intelligence, nor meth for that matter.

Kevin Bacon never used meth in the movie either so I don't follow your next thought.
Yes, they were like little Dumb and Dumber. Complete morons. Almost shot each other with a rifle, and saying completely stupid things over and over throughout the movie.

I totally agree. It wasn't just one stupid action. It was one thing after another after another for the whole movie. It just got to be too much, too unbelievable. I could understand Kevin Bacon's character doing what he did in the context of the situation. But the boys' stupidity ruined the movie for me.
sharei've seen some dumb kids in my life, but hot damn these are two inbred morons, especially at that age, if they were like 5 maybe, but nobody can be this dumb at 10, not even american kids
shareI was thinking the same thing. At the start, I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt because of their age but it is like the writer was portraying what he thought kids should be like rather than the level of intelligence an average 10 year old has. I could have bought the things they were saying and doing if they had been younger (like about 5) but then they couldn't have driven the car. It would have been more realistic if they had been egging each other on but not in their weird little fantasy land most of the time. Ruined the film for me as I know kids are not that stupid.
