Look, SOLO wasn't the best movie, it was just average with some great callbacks and a AWESOME cameo. But it's still a more enjoyable film than TLJ. I felt solo needed 30 more minutes of something, i just can't put my finger on it.
What’s really sad is I actually think the last jedi is the best one Disney has put out , by the way I’m not denying that it’s a piece of shit, the last jedi is definitely a piece of shit
Its a stupid and depressive war movie! Beside its name, Star Wars never was a war movie. It is about fantasy and friends. Therefor making a stupid war movie out of Star wars is as braindead as putting John Wayne into Sound Of Music!
This is what Kennedy hasn't figured out. Episode 7 should've had Leia, Luke and Han united in one place together. Even Episode 8 had the new characters of Rey, Finn and Poe separated.
Thats one of the key point (beside her agenda filmmaking) that KK didnt got and thats part of the reason why Disney Star Wars fails completely. Noone, not even the most Luke/Han/Leia centric Star Wars fans, would have thought that this old actors would play their role for all eternity. All they needed was an amazing "passing the torch to the next generation" movie. Thats what Ep 7 should have been. The three best guys in the galaxy united again livin through some huge adventure and survive it. With the help of the new characters. They could have been introduced into Star Wars (not forced into it without the smallest chance of getting any empathy for thos blank losers) and at the end of the movie everyone would have been glad to see the three major players again in one heck of an adventure and on the other side also being perfectly familiar with the new ones. And if the female lead of the new characters could have been portrayed like Luke back then at Ep VII (as a flawed "human") noone on this planet would have had any problem with the new "Luke" being a woman (in the same way as noone on that planet had the smallest problem that Shamu was a woman or Ripley).
But no .... they hired a director without the smallest clue about moviemaking (Yar Yar Abrams). I dont know if he is able to do tv series (never seen an ep of Lost and there are folks which had the fact that he lost :) the overview of his own brain child completely. And others which think how amazing he build up the stroyline over many seasons). But making movies is a completely different story. Noone gives a sh*t about your problem with stagelights and noone gives even a sh*t about your mystery boxes (cause movies arent tv series). Combined with the fact hat he script was one of the most stupid scripts out there and the fact that KK hated Lucas (cause she alwys just played the second fiddle at LucasArts :) ) and focused on her agenda mainly we had he most wasted opportunity in Star Wars filmmaking.
I watched Lost and then stopped because Abrams never answered riddles that he created in the show. In an interview, he confessed that he never had any answers because he thought the show was going to be cancelled the first season.
Obviously, he had no answers to the questions he created in Force Awakens because he wasn't planning on making any more SW movies. Episode 9 will be his making it all up as he goes along like he did with Lost.
Last Jedi woke up many fans like myself who now realize how flawed Disney Star Wars is.
I get my Luke, Leia and Han together again in the Lucas EU books. Obviously, the next generation will be their children. I would've loved to see it played out in movies, but the books are a fine alternative. I don't consider anything Disney does to be canon anymore.
Im not such a huge Star Wars fan. But it was fun in the 80s to watch this huge fantasy opera. Thats why its absolutely sad that Disney killed that opus in such a stupid and desperate way.
But even I bought now the Spawn trilogy comics. Thats how the third trilogy should have been. Disney doesnt matter for most Star Wars moviegoers out there anymore. Its just one of many fan movies. The same as with Indy IV.
I refused to watch Indy IV because they had a "young guy" to costar with Harrison Ford for a younger audience or to replace him. I hate when they do that.
Obviously, he had no answers to the questions he created in Force Awakens because he wasn't planning on making any more SW movies.
Abrams is the executive producer of the entire sequel trilogy. He has to give his "okay" to the scripts for Episodes 8 and 9, which is what he did for Rian's script.
Abrams is actually more central to the new trilogy than Kennedy. Abrams is the one who got the new trilogy moving.
He also wrote rough scripts for his own versions of 8 and 9. He knew where he wanted to go with the story.
It's very likely that his Episode 9 will be a re-write of what he had already done for it.

I've read two versions re: the sequel trilogy. Yours and an interview with Johnson who said there was no information about how to proceed with Episode 8. Abrams refused to answer any of his questions re: Abram's intent. Someone is lying.
Keep in mind that Disney tends to put out press releases of phony stories to help their promotion and defend themselves against criticism. For instance:
*Solo pre-release ticket sales were breaking records. (Flopped!)
*Last Jedi blu-rays were sold out. (Flopped!)
*Last Jedi low rating on Rotten Tomatoes was done by one alt-right group thru bots. (RT said no. Obviously, most fans hate this movie.)
*People who didn't like Last Jedi are all white male women-haters and racists. (But yet same group enjoyed Force Awakens?)
*Lucas had a large hand in contributing to Solo. (He suggested 1 joke)
I tend to believe Johnson's version because there were 3 different writers/directors teams and the last director was fired after he asked Rian not to kill off Luke or Snoke. That means he was actively creating his own direction with his script. This further contradicts your version.
"He knew where he wanted to go with the story."
I know Abrams said that, but I don't believe him because initially he wasn't going to do 8 or 9 and he has a history of being lazy re: finishing storylines. He admitted during an interview that he never created answers to many of the questions he raised on "Lost" because he expected the show to be cancelled in its first season.
And again, Trevorrow's firing contradicts a set storyline.
Given Abram's history, expect Episode 9 to be made-up nonsense on the fly.
It was always pitched as a war film tho, The Clone Wars was a depressing war series too, because ya know, war man lol i mean....you want Star Wars is first and foremost a space opera, Also Empire was a pretty dark film too. So your complaint don't make dollars or sense.
Star Wars always was a soap opera in space with a lot of fantasy elements. Making a war movie out of that is rather stupid. And also the reason why Rogue One failed completely.
It's the best Disney-SW after Rogue One, followed by Jedi and then by Force Awakens. I can live with Solo as some form of fanfilm. Not sure if I make it head canon yet.
That's pretty much how I see the Disney films too. Solo wasn't terrible and I can accept it as canon but it was a very generic sci-fi flick that's easily forgettable. As it did not piss me off like TFA and TLJ, it's one of the better Disney Star Wars movies imo.
Last jedi was 10x better. This movie isn't even fun like it should have been. it introduced a ton of characters just to kill them off, and tried to shove EVERY story we've heard about Han into one movie. The acting was weak, and Has was boring. A Lando movie would have been MUCH more interesting. Or a Chewie movie. Really anyone around Solo would have made a better movie.
TLJ is the movie which killed Star Wars. Its therefor pointless to discuss about the quality about one of the dead horse kicked "movies" Disney is continue to released.
Only idiots are still watching thos "movies". And obviously there arent many left of them.
