This film will do just fine financially

Last year, "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" opened over Memorial Day weekend and took in $78.4 million from Friday to Monday. That was just under its projections of $80 million to $85 million and the lowest opening for a "Pirates" movie since the first one.

So what were the final numbers?

Domestic: $172,558,876 21.7%
+ Foreign: $622,302,918 78.3%
= Worldwide: $794,861,794

Foreign market is where it's at these days.

Still - there's no doubt that Disney needs to get its house in order with these production issues in numerous films. Too much micro-management and corporate dictatorship is costing it a pretty penny with all these reshoots.

solo has bombed in the forgien markets. its US take wasn't too bad

reply

Yeah...Solo won't get anywhere NEAR those foreign totals. We are looking at least a 200 million dollar loss(if not more).

I agree. The Last Jedi was so bad, many Star Wars fans have sat out the opening weekend, but when they realise it's perfectly watchable, they'll turn up in droves. It doesn't help that the release schedule is pretty crowded at present and there's a lot of competition about.

reply

It's not about Solo. It's about the direction of Disney Star Wars movies and the total disrespect of KK & co. towards the fans when we complain about the quality.

"perfectly watchable"
That doesn't sound like a good movie to me. Expect Episode 9 to do poorly also since the trilogy story has been destroyed thanks to Johnson.
