Is it just me,or did the picture lack contrast. There is nothing wrong with darkly lit scenes, but this film seemed to have to little contrast. As a consequence the scenes become lacking in visual detail.

shareIt was such a bland color pallet it blows my mind that people approved this. Probably has to most boring colors I ever saw in a sci-fi movie.
shareYeah, I posted a "Cinematography" topic here a couple of weeks ago.
The cinematographer, Bradford Young, is African American. Which is great that you have someone African American working as a cinematographer and getting an Academy Award nomination.
But, I just, absolutely, do not get his work. He does all of this unlit, muddy-looking stuff. "Arrival" had these unlit-type shots, and all that desaturated-color stuff. I just do not get it.
And, why would the original directors, who did "The Lego Movie," with all its bright colors, go with someone who shoots like Young does? I just don't get it.
