I tried watching this last night. But I could bring myself to accept the Manson Monsters being portrayed as heroes. Also the fact that the murders were not portrayed as they really occurred, for example: in last night's episode Steven Parent was killed last when in reality he was killed first. And this 'Emma' chick is a fictitious character. Debra Tate ( Sharon's sister ) is calling for a boycott of this crap. She is also spearheading an online petition to keep Leslie Van Houton behind bars. These people are not heroes. Charles Manson is is the worst piece of human garbage that ever lived. None of them should be let out.

I guess it is a matter of perception but I don't see the show making heroes of the Manson Family. It shows how full of crap his spiels about love are, showing him abusing and killing his own girls, and other people in addition to the historical murders of the Tates and Labiancas (maybe they won't show the Labianca murders and just go with the more famous murders at Sharon Tate's home).
They do show his followers as worshiping him, but I don't see that as an endorsement of their view of him, just a depiction of his maniacal and hypnotic control over his "family".

The show bills itself as a fiction based on true events. There isn't enough established factual history of the Manson Family back story to provide 24 to 36 episodes. They needed to make this a fictional account in order to create a back story.
Emma is a fictional character as you said. This gives the writers carte blanche to develop her character how ever they want to. She seems to be a kind of generic Manson girl. She also provides the link between the Family and the fictional Det. Hodiak.

By billing the show as a fiction the writers are able to provide a more full and detailed back story on the Manson family. I think their depiction of the way the girls worship Charlie, and are willing to commit horrible crimes at his behest is true to history. So while it is fictional, the story has a resemblance to fact in some of the essentials.
