The biggest problem and the biggest strength of Fear the Walking Dead

OK I am only halfway through season 2, so please, no spoilers.

Biggest problem I see so far: No strong characters like Rick, Daryl, Carol etc. to root for. Maddie is unlikable, Travis is a puss, Nick is a flake, Chris is a psycho, Alicia is a clueless valley girl, Strand is boring and gay, etc. etc. Daniel was pretty cool, but AFAIK he has been roasted alive. I understand Morgan is eventually going to join the show, so maybe he will solve this problem.

This also holds true for the villains. So far we have had some weak army and medical personnel, half-assed pirates, a sinister Mexican abuelita and some narcos. Where is a new Governor or a Negan we can love to hate?

Biggest strength I see so far: No superheroes like Michonne who can kill 20+ Walkers in minutes without breaking a sweat. This totally altered the grim survival mood of the original show when she showed up. The Walkers went from being terrifying to practically a minor inconvenience unless they showed up in a horde of thousands. I really hope they do not change this and maintain the realistic survival horror feel.

That was one of many complaints during the original run. No one likeable. No one to root for. No one to relate to that you could imagine yourself in their shoes.

Michonne wasn't the only one. Tyreese survived an entire horde with a claw hammer. Ugh.

The worst was Michonne's pet walker trick. It made no sense on any level. And even if it did, why wouldn't everyone do it all the time?

You’re pretty much spot on with your character assessment. No characters to like or root for with the exception of Daniel in those early stages in my opinion. Most of the time they repeatedly did stupid things that no sentient being would do. It was like an improv exercise where the director would just tell the actors “You’re in a room with some scary zombies. What do you do? And action!” Cut! Print! There’s your episode.

Looking back I guess the main thing that comes to mind for me was after watching each episode I was left with the feeling that nothing happened. The entire hour long episode and I’m asking myself what the @#$* was that about.

Always leaving doors open. Every scene. Even the gate when they left the neighborhood. Just left it open.

FTWD peaks in S03 and then it's a car crash.

It's horrific after Morgan joins. He is the worst character.

After S03, the writer's threw all the promise of that season out the window when they revamped the show for Morgan. It never recovered & only got worse.
