Why people stay in cold states during apocalypse?

I always wonder about that when I see winder times in apocalypse shows. Just pack your things and go south to warm states with no real winter. Instead our gang in episode 8 sits and starves because its winter and no one can find food.

Wyoming is big as hell and has a pre-apocalypse population of like 700 thousand, whereas San diego is condensed and has a population of like 3 million. Warm places would probably be thick with zombies.

That's why.

I feel like its more because of laziness. People just stay where they lived pre-apocalypse and know place and dont want to go into dangerous journey into other states. And well its is dangerous and they can die. On the other hand then they stay in cold place where group like this doesnt have food. And they constantly have to worry about heating place they stay in. And its dangerous because looters and scavangers will see smoke and may come. And they cant leave their house because they will froze. While in warm states they can live and not worry about weather at all. Worst case they would have to wear coat. And food has to be more accessible.

Overall 20 years into apocalypse people have to start rebuilding way of living with growing food. Otherwise they will all starve to death. And the bigger community - the more food they need. This particular group is perfect example. Its winter, nothing to hunt and nothing to eat.

I wonder what they will do in Canada and Alaska during apocalypse.

You may aswell slowly make your way down to the equator, you'll grow good crops and its the perfect zone to grow coffee plants!

I will say though, from personal experience, its easier to warm up in a home than it is to cool it down. If you dont have working hvac, living in the south is harder.

Probably because it is easier than to get hundreds or thousands of miles on foot if they don't have any other transportation.
Also, as you brought up earler, it is safer from zombies and raiders.

You ever see the Zombieland movies?
Apparently they never have any worries about gas!
LOL

Colder states= less population= less infected.

We had a discussion about this after the episode... I would think somewhere in California if you could make it - not near a big town but out in the sticks in the middle of the state or on the upper coast- would be ideal. The weather isn't as bad, lots of open land and can grow almost anything.

I get that they were on their way and got stuck in Wyoming, but I certainly wouldn't stay there long-term. I'd at least try to make it to a warmer climate, even an island or someplace you know wouldn't get invaded easily.

Going north in a zombie apocalypse would mean not having to worry about zombies or infected for 3-5 months. They'll freeze until spring.

South is not the best idea. Desert areas, depending on water from other places. California is mainly a big drought.

I would rather go to a green state, like Oregon. Somewhere near a dam.

because it looks cooler. duh. nothing looks more desolate than winter scenes.
