Will it even hit 40 or 50 million ww at this rate? What about the reports it was catching its second wind box-office wise?

I don't think this will make too much in China. I assume that's what you mean.

reply

He meant it as a joke. It's not the type of American movie that goes well over there. Weirdly enough, Coco did quite well in China a few years ago.

It was hilarious back in 2016 when Boonie Bears III (THREE, mind you!) clobbered Star Wars: The Force Awakens at the Chinese box-office.

Maybe they can do a deep fake type of change and give Ansel Elgort Chinese slant eyes and Rachel Zegler Japanese slant eyes (I couldn't tell the difference, but Asians probably notice things like that) and make it a love story about a Chinese boy trying to find happiness with his Japanese immigrant girlfriend. They might like it over there.

reply

Maybe if the Japanese girlfriend acknowledged "Taiwan is a part of China" they could put up with such an onscreen relationship.

I don't know where the break even for this is, but it won't make back it's budget in its theatrical run. Doubtful it gets very much through streaming, so it likely will lose tens of millions.

Behind Encanto on Thu/Fri! No one's ever going to make a big budget musical again.

3.4 for the weekend

It will be a complete travesty if WSS can’t even make as much at the box office as Cats.

I notice that most film musicals now are either remakes (Disney cartoons!) or adaptations of stage shows. It is not a working formula of late. Maybe Hollywood should go for an original, low budget musical. La La Land did well; it wasn’t great either but it was new and different.
