The characters (possible spoilers if you know nothing of the books)

Ok so they’re switching things up a little with some of the characters of the books and how they may appear. So far one’s I’ve noticed are:

**Updated Theories:

Lucas = Scarecrow [amnesiac mystery man, possible guard who went against the Wizard's orders?]
**Is it possible Lucas turns out to be the 'Lion'? If he was guard with lions head helm and was then called cowardly for disobeying orders which resulted in him being punished severely? It would explain why that sword was left on ground where he was left too.

Tip = Ozma [true ruler of Oz disguised as a young boy by way of magic potion]

Eamonn = Cowardly Lion ?? [Guard sent to search out what came through the twister. With that mane of hair, It’ll be him. Some sort of special soldier with lion helm??]
**I'm having second thoughts on this theory. It might not be him after all.

Ojo and tribe = Munchkins [dang, no lollypop guild here I guess]

Just wondering when we’ll meet up with:

??? = Tin Man [possibly one of the machines the Wizard uses like flying monkey drone or most likely a cyborg character like in quick clip from trailer?]

OK so after episode 3, I'm thinking Tin Man could end up being Jack. He could have been altered by one of the steampunkish Ev doctors. Drastic measures to save his life after being shoved off the balcony and falling all that way down to the ground.

Dorothy's mother was in Oz at one time according to East Witch's guard. He called her the interloper or something like that. So she may not be a witch of OZ exiled or escaped to our world after Beast Forever attack, but Dorothy could have ties to someone with magic from OZ if her father was from there. The Wizard himself? Or long shot, the Beast Forever (if it's some sort of title for other wizard?) The Wizard could have sent Dorothy's pregnant mother far away to keep Dorothy safe.

Going by what Jack's become, I'd say he's the shows version of the Tin Man.

reply

I read up on this a little, I hope this series continues onward, there's so much they can do with it.

reply

I think the Beast is Dorothy's mother, and Dorothy will be the second coming of the Beast. Remember, history is written by the victors, or at least the survivors. If Dorothy's mother stood against the Wizard and the Witches, and they survived while she disappeared back to earth, I could see her being made a villain in their version of history.

From episode 4, Sylvie appears to be a character created by the show. Not finding any reference for her in the Baum books.

One other member, msully25, suggested Lucas may have saved her before he was crucified.

reply

Sylvie has magical powers and perhaps Lucas was crucified because he tried to save her. Or perhaps she is his daughter or a relative?

Episode 5 has so much more to add I don't know where to start.

Mind blowing episode.

Witch of the West tells Dorothy that the Mother of the South was her mother along with thousands of others. Is that a literal statement and if so when she says the other Cardinal Witches are her sisters are they sisters by blood and would that mean Dorothy is also her sister?

When Dorothy finds the Wizard she tells him they come from the same place and his reply indicates he knows her mother and then it is implied they might be related, possibly her father?

I am wondering about the little girl Lucas and Dorothy found - perhaps she is a take on Scraps, the Patchwork Girl? Her mistress was accidentally turned to stone....

Also wondering about their take on Glinda. In the books, she was the witch of the South, and the most powerful sorceress of all. I am not sure the witch of the North was ever named. The 1939 film, and the novel and play Wicked, seem to want Glinda to be from the North. I am wondering if Dorothy's mom was the witch of the South.

Dorothy's arrival with a covered face reminded me of Ojo's arrival into Emerald City as a prisoner.

Also curious about the King of Ev - in the books, he's a pretty nasty character, who sold his family into slavery to the Nome King. ooh - wonder if they will use him?

Also wondering about their take on Glinda.

Their take on Glinda is that she seems very shady. She lied about not seeing East in years. East was suspicious of Glinda when she encountered Dorothy and Lucas. I wonder if Glinda is responsible for the massacre of the 10 soldiers that Lucas is blamed for. Also, could she be the Beast Forever who is coming?

The relationship between Jack and Lady Ev seems to be inverting the standard Tin-Man-needs-a-heart plotline. Jack is physically the Tin Man, but he doesn't seem to be lacking a heart. Instead, in slowly developing a friendship with Lady Ev, he seems to be teaching her compassion, i.e., giving *her* a heart.

reply

Yes, I agree about the inversion of the Tin Man needing a heart idea with Jack and Lady Ev. I was surprised by that in the last episode.

reply

Jack is lacking Tip who is his heart. He already said Tip broke his heart when he got shoved from the balcony.

Lady Ev is a roadblock. He thinks Tip abandoned him and Tip thinks he's dead.

In this version it seems pretty clear that Ozma wants to stay Tip and I dunno how that'll work out but it seems like Jack doesn't care and will love him anyway.
