Ending is aggressively unsatisfying (SPOILERS IF YA CARE DOC)

As a fan of\nerd for the original Warner Bros cartoons who never thought the original Space Jam was particularly good but still has some nostalgia for it, and who doesn't follow the NBA, I thought this was OK. I feel like it made more of an attempt to play with the Looney Tunes staple as actual characters rather than just merchandising icons, and although some of that is misdirected, I appreciated that.

The final scene was terrible though. If you're going to do a "Bugs makes a noble sacrifice" scene, and that's a big if, you have to come up with a better out than "he's a cartoon character so he can't die", or at least you have to do it with a funnier reveal than they pull off here. It honestly feels like something they changed at the last minute.

I've looked through these threads just to see if there's anything about this - I agree, while I didn't think for a minute Bugs would actually die, I expected a better explanation - actually, ANY explanation!
My best guess would that he'd replace Don Cheadle in the Warner-verse or whatever it was called, where he could stay in touch with the other toons and have fun wreaking all kinds of havoc in cyberspace.
Like you say, it's like they threw that "he's really alive" bit in at the last minute - especially with those stills during the end credits, like they didn't have time to (or more likely couldn't be bothered to) make any live action scenes of the characters living it up in LA.
Reminds me of the lazy ending of that awful Muppets reboot (the Jason Seigel one) - halfway through the finale song - oh turns out we're not gonna close the theatre after all so these last 2 hours have been a waste of time, whatever, f**K you - carry on with this stupid song.

Glad to know I'm not alone!

I thought that Muppets movie was very overrated at the time, a lot of coasting on nostalgia by recycling scenes from earlier better projects I could have been watching instead, and what was new either wasn't particularly good or just felt kind of "off".

I finished watching this. For me, the first movie was awesome. This was just OK. And I am/was more of NBA fan. I can understand the original cartoon characters making more of an influence here, although I couldn't tell you how faithful they are. Evidently, we never saw Granny or Lola star like that before. Towards the middle was less satisfying, I self-imposed an intermission. At the end, however, I liked the final play effects. Yea, the glitch is convenient and all... who could see with the score if it really mattered
