The endless capacity of Kevin's stupidity

SPOILERS!

I love the actor, but boy, the way Kevin's character is written . . . It nearly borders on poor writing, because it's so hard to believe that any one character could be such a ceaseless font of stupidity. From keeping the coke to selling it; giving it back to Lowry, thinking that they'd all be square after; to insisting giving up the whole story to Marco; then killing him. It's just not realistic that someone can be so consistently stupid and still be alive.

Same with Meg—it really seemed out of character to have her suddenly turn on John.

John is right about the both of them. To hell with 'em.

You have to blame the father, Robert, here, for how F'ed up they all are—but I think Beau Bridges's character will be the ultimate villain (he will be found to have tainted Robert somehow, which leads to the whole mess, I think).

But really, the whole family needs a Jaws attack.

I think the show went off the rails a bit in the second season, although Danny's son showing up right at the end of season one was a big red flag. I'm not sure about Kevin's actions... they were indeed very stupid, but he was drugged up and, perhaps more importantly, increasingly paranoid. I've had times in my life where I looked back at my decisions during high-stress periods and wondered what the hell I was thinking. I don't think it's completely implausible behavior, but I still think it's a pretty big risk to have characters acting this foolishly in a show because its very difficult for the audience to sympathize.

Agree 100% about Meg in the finale, though. Turning on John came out of nowhere and was pure BS.

Agreed.

God, please, I hope not.

Yea, I couldn't agree more mang.. It was painful to watch sometimes.
At the end when Kevin wants to go to Marco and Meg just drops him off, I just found it to be unbelievable. It was pretty much the same thing as two people willing to commit suicide simultaneously.
Kevin actually thinks it could help them, and Meg does absolutely nothing to dissuade this notion. I mean... Come off it.. She's a lawyer. Even people who aren't lawyers know that going to Marco with that would be an automatic accessary to murder charge for the both of them. At best they would be looking at 15 years minimum. Willing to accept that is really almost like being willing to jump off a bridge. There was no sense of self preservation at all... And they were both giving up very, very good lives... They were set in almost everyway. They just had basically one horrible thing to deal with.
I would have liked to see a different ending, one were they got off.. When Marco told Kevin to get the *beep* out, I would have liked to see a scenario where he got killed on the way to see O'bannnon, by a drunk driver or simply a car wreck. He could have even got killed by a car bomb. Then it should have went immediately to O'bannon checking his watch, then turning around and being shocked to se Meg, who just instantly caps him to the dome piece.
The ending went against all of the character's strong will to prevail and protect their name and families. The ending just didn't add up.

Finally getting around to watching it now. Loved the first season and this one is just as good if not better but god damn you are right. Had to see if someone had mentioned this already lol. Especially considering he thought he was a saint in season 1. And youre also right that the actor is doing a great job theyre just writing him terrible. Maybe he has a personal beef with the writer.

Kevin's behaviour and the mere presence of Danny's WT son throughout the season are the just plot-devices that drags down the quality of the show

I watched both seasons and as it progressed many things started bothering me, but Kevin most of all and I deliberately came here to see if I could share the frustration and YES, I find your post StorkX.
I've never been sympathetic with people hanging on to their past to justify their present or blaming everything around you for things you do. Maybe even worse how Kevin is portrayed- as long as he sobbs like a child and keeps saying:"I'm stupid! I know I f...ed up!", it will be completely fine when ten minutes after he decides to take matters into his own hands and go do something even stupider. By admitting he's so stupid, you'd think he'd lay low and let other, more intelligent people make decisions, but no... And why do they even include him in anything after he does those stupid things? And then he gets the balls to accuse his brother of everything and wash his hands of the mess. Was anyone sane in that conversation? He says:"We didn't kill anybody." And nobody contradicts him. Dude, you helped with everything. How does that look clean. And then you go and committ murder! I mean, *beep* That being said, the whole story started annoying me, but Kevin... Just like you say, borders on poor writing. He deserves to be dealt with. He's just disgusting! Even more than Danny.

I think the one that's tainted John the most is his wife. I can barely stand her.

I thought Beau Bridges would end up being Kevins biological father.. If there was a season 4 , that would be a good twist as they alluded to him knowing Sally for years, and that he loaned them the money for the Inn

Kevin is spectacularly dumb. You really have to admire the actor who plays him for making us loathe him so much. Midway through Season 2, I kept wondering if Meg and John would off him, simply because he's a loose cannon who can't be trusted to stay quiet and keep a low profile.
