Really good movie!

Just watched this with my boyfriend and I really don't understand the 5.8 score on IMDB at all. My bf and I watch a lot of zombie movies and some are scored between 5 and 6 here but are far far worse than this movie. This movie was actually really good, with a great balance between story and action (just enough story for me and action for him lol) so I really don't understand how this scored below 6. The zombies were really good looking (well, you know what I mean), the characters were interesting (except the woman at the end she was kinda pointless) and the tension was just good enough that the movie was never boring. It was good in a '28 Days Later' sense with the mixture of drama and horror, not as good as it, but pretty good still. I'm really baffled with the score. I would give it a solid 7 or perhaps even a little more.

I agree as i just scored it a 9 out of 10 as I thought it was awesome!

I'm thinking it comes down to two things, mainly: 1) it was relatively low-budget and straight to DVD, and 2) it wasn't the typical action/horror/suspense. Personally, I found it to be a surprisingly fresh take on the genre, with a lot of depth you rarely see in horror films anymore. The only downfall, I think, was the open-ended conclusion, but that's simply because I don't love that type of ending; it honestly worked pretty well, considering the subject matter.

Too many things don't add up.

- There's a whole community 50 miles away and despite being on his radio every evening, they don't know about it ?

- The group of the new girl was attacked and killed, but she just walked away, unharmed but a wee bit cold ?

- They live out there for nine years, blasting music / radio out those speakers, his dog barking, shooting guns, speeding around on a loud snow scooter and NEVER attract these things (which have excellent hearing), in fact they believe them to be extinct.

Then all of a sudden two show up (one in the store and one digging around the fence - unless that was the same one). They capture one, allowing it to "communicate" with others for days, but no others show up. Then, basically SECONDS after the new girl shoots it, 20-30 of them line up to invade their home... 

When I'm gone I would like something to be named after me. A psychiatric disorder, for example.

This bothered me a bit, too.

I think there was a bit more to this, though. Who knows how many showed up and how much yelling and screaming distracted them from her. Maybe in her fractured mind, she was able to run and not cry out. Look at how the little girl survived down in the basement.

I figured they are nomadic, so for 9 years they were somewhere else. The first one that showed up is the same one at the store. Basically, the one that they captured had strayed from the group, and the others were busy off elsewhere. Overall, these things didn't bother me enough to take away from the story.

What bothered me most, and what almost prevented me from watching the movie, is the beginning. The zombie just walked away from a bus of loud people, and the two main characters opened the door instead of driving the bus away. Very ignorant things to do.

- How do you know it was only 50 miles away?

- She was in shock.

- They've could have come back to that area recently. Perhaps they hunt in packs.

I thought so, too! The low score almost turned me away, but even if a zombie movie is bad, it's at least hilarious to watch. All in all, this was fantastic and it saddens me that movies like this are no longer made. I'd much rather see character development action sequence after action sequence.

I also enjoyed the movie. It was surprisingly good. However, horror movies on IMDB kind of have to be judged on a different scale. I have noticed that for regular movies, anything above a 6 has a chance to be good with everything above a 7 usually being good.

For horror movies I noticed that anything above a 5.5 has a chance to be a good movie. So based on IMDB user's typical voting behavior, this movie was scored fairly. Personally, I would rate it a 7.5-8 because of some of the flaws mentioned above.

hi i agree with u its worse more score and there is no good zombie movie anymore but this one is very good survival movie with movie and some love should have more score

it was quite alright. a bit redundant at times, but with somewhat relatable characters, a rather stupid backstory and an unfulfilling ending. i gave it a 5/10, which means quite alright. i could get why one would get it a 6, but definitively not more.

Wow i guess i just don't see what you guys see. The story was WEAK what happened? why was earth in an ice age? what caused these people to turn into these things in the first place? when they were blaring music why didn't they go out and shoot them all in the head or shoot them in their ear thing once they figured out loud noises bothered them, while these things were squirming around instead of wasting all their ammo on shooting them in the body and other parts?

this movie reminds me a lot of the Road just replace cannibals with some sort of creature i would not go as far as even calling them zombies due to the comment one of the actors made that said these thing were evolving very fast in 9 years.

Agreed: i thought it was really good, and i agree with the balance of action/drama etc.

I honestly thought it was also well put together with the occasional relevant flashbacks ... But not too much to overpower the film.

BELOW MAY OR MAY NOT CONTAIN SPOILERS:

Overall, i thought the acting was good, the little girl wasn't overly annoying (thank gosh) lol, story was pretty good, cgi was OK (-1 for that, but it wasnt super super bad cgi, just slightly noticeable imo, if i turn a blind eye i did like the sunset and other stuff lol, despite the cgi haha) but overall the snowy scenery etc i thought was pretty cool (pun not intended) and also i though that some of the concepts were pretty interesting - i.e. The strand disappearing and basically how the zombies adapted to the cold. I also liked the back story of the two guys and the amount of intensity was pretty decent as well. Lastly, the make-up of the zombies were pretty good, they looked pretty awesome and seeing as they are not the usual zombies was pretty interesting too!

I would definitely watch the next one if they made another one lol, i'd be interested to see what's beyond Harmony haha.

Also, in relation to one of the other posters on this thread. I think, the reason the zombies stayed away was because of the fact that Patrick's radio station was on blast for hours so that kept them away, until he stopped broadcasting on those PA systems when he heard the voices on that speaker in his house - i think this links in with the fact that at the end when they blasted the music, the zombies were all fidgety etc coz of the noise. Not to mention he tied the zombie up & kept it alive and it was calling its mates lol. So this could be a reason as to why they stayed away from the area at first, he did say "we thought they were extinct but they adapted" (or something along those lines) (i defs found this pretty interesting imo).

Anyway, definitely, i feel it deserves a higher rating :)
9/10.
