I loved Divergent, like other people have said here I was a bit disappointed by Insurgent. There wasn't really anything particularly wrong with it, I just think it suffered compared to Divergent because Divergent was so good, it was hard to follow it up.
I agree that Allegiant though still not as good as Divergent was an improvement on Insurgent (except those awful orange blobs when they are first found outside the wall).
I must admit I am gutted that Ascendant has been canned (or is now a TV movie, still not really sure what that means, other than it will be shorter, with less effects and possibly difficult to get hold off).
Even if it gets made, it may as well not be as I believe Theo James is no longer involved. It won’t be the same without one of the two leads, who will have to be written out, which will spoil the story for me. The other option is Four being played by someone else but I think that will be weird and I struggle to see how that can work.
I know there have been some critical reviews but there are also a lot of fans that have enjoyed the series. Very rarely is a film or set of films liked by everyone. Plot holes is a common complaint, which whilst I can see the points being made I don’t watch films for their factual and realistic accuracy.
I did read about rumours this is all an elaborate ploy to generate publicity and interest, as the last film performed poorly. Seems unlikely but I live in hope. Even if the follow up parts haven't been as good as Divergent, they have still been enjoyable watches and I feel frustrated and sad that the franchise isn’t going to get the proper finale it deserves.
