This one was like Jason Bourne. A little too much like Jason Bourne, actually, right down to parts of the climax. Even the final fight scene was too similar to Jason Bourne's final fight.

I didn't like the fact that they shoehorned the side story about the girl. They could have removed that and it would have saved time and paying.

Then again, wasn't she in the novel also?

Only very briefly, almost incidentally I would say. They greatly inflated her role for the movie.

The girl makes Tom appear bigger than he really is, which is probably why they felt she was necessary.
