John leaving Alice and Lydia moving back home

Did John actually end up taking that job in Minnesota, or did he decide not to? Did he leave Alice permanently at the end? Or, if he did take the new job, was it just temporary? As for Lydia, did she move home to help John take care of Alice while John was at work during the day (if he didn't take the job), or was she solely taking care of Alice because John left permanently? There was probably some obvious dialogue about it, but I must've have missed it. Thanks for your help!!

That is what i wrote in another thread:
"i understand why he left too, he couldn't see her like that
not a lot would understand how it is and i think it was worse for Lydia seeing her Mom like that
your kid would do all kinds of stupid things, he/she will grow up and get wiser so it is not a big deal
but your parents they won't get any wiser, it won't be any better and they are supposed to be your role models so it is too hard to watch them go down like this
very sad and touching movie for me."

so basically him leaving is a sign of love more than not, just he couldn't handle seeing her struggling like that
it would be much better than staying and trying to avoid seeing her, just to satisfy his desire to be the man who stood by her till the end
not everyone can make it through this, too painful for some.

That's a pretty selfish way of showing he loved her "too much" too see her suffer. I say bullsh^t to that.

But I do believe he left her. He was determined to take that job. It might have been a very fulfilling position that he was very lucky to be offered.

Also, remember their income would have been greatly reduced with her not working and they had a pretty lavish lifestyle to pay for. And eventually she would have gone to that live-in place, which I'm sure was pricey.

Their marriage was over. He was moving on.

Actually life is not that easy, it is not black or white only
love is selfish sometimes, that happens when a guy proposes to a girl even though there is a better guy who wants to marry her, whether better financially or as a person or anything but that doesn't make him stop to think what is better for her
if i was in her shoes i would prefer if he left too, because sometimes just staying because it is your duty is not helpful
he might force himself to stay but wouldn't be as nice as Lydia would be to her
it is not Alice's fault but that doesn't make him happy to help her either so leaving and letting someone who is better to help is better for Alice also
plus he already mentioned that they needed the new job, he couldn't leave his work and that is a better opportunity for the family.

Yes, I mentioned they needed the income since she stopped working.
