Kirk Douglas
Just going from the trailer, I can't see much of a resemblance with the guy playing him

shareI thought the same thing watching him in photos, but I must say that he did a good job and his scenes didn't end up having the alienating effect you could have imagined.
shareOh, I don't know. He definitely reminds me of Kirk Douglas. Speaking of which, anyone who has an interest in the Blacklist, Dalton Trumbo, or the making of SPARTACUS should read the book 'I Am Spartacus!: Making a Film, Breaking the Blacklist' by Kirk Douglas. It's short, and the audio book is read by his son Michael. It's a great read and should overlap with the movie TRUMBO very well.
EDIT TO ADD: In addition to the above listed book, there is also this commentary on the book written by Mitzi Trumbo, Dalton Trumbo's daughter:

"I speak Spanish to God, French to women, English to men, and Japanese to my horse."
Saw the movie last night. He definitely reminded me of Kirk Douglas. The actor who played John Wayne didn't remind me of Duke in his early scenes, but absolutely did when he was talking to Hedda Hopper.
shareI thought the actor playing Kirk Douglas did a remarkable job, not by imitating him, but through evoking his physicality and single-minded drive. I really bought into the performance. I only wish there was a scene where he lost his temper, since Douglas' intensity would really have been brought into the fore. But of course, the danger of falling into a caricature probably would have come into play in such a scene as well.
shareI'm waiting to hear how Kirk himself feels about the film. He's the only one left that lived through it.
Oh, and Happy 99th Birthday Mr. Douglas!
I'm waiting to hear how Kirk himself feels about the film.
Every once in a while you'd get a glimpse of this actor that made you think of Kirk Douglas, looks-wise. Not completely, but a little.
Acting-wise not so much. I wasn't all that impressed with him in that regard. It was like he was trying too hard or something but wasn't really hitting the mark. Too forced with little impact.

You must be joking. Only minus point comes from him being so short.
shareimdb lists Kirk Douglas at 5-9, presumably in his prime, vs only an inch less by Dean O'Gorman. # gravitas

It's just a bad accent. The guy is a New Zealanders. Played Fili in The Hobbit movies.
Life! Don't talk to me about life.
I knew the actor playing him looked familiar. I looked at his movies and it was "Bonjour Timothy" I saw him in when he was a teenager
