Dumb & Dumber To wasn't terrible, just very mediocre and the actors just couldn't pull it off anymore and they needed a better storyline, instead of rehashing the same one from 20 years prior. I liked some parts like the science convention about blackholes but I was left disappointed. It should've been made around 2001-2008, during the peak of comedy films and should've been more focused on crude humor than slipstick since that became outdated after the 90s. I mean waiting until 2014 was way too late and comedy was dying around that point in time. I think about 2015-2016 was the last time comedy films were still mainstream and still being theatrically released on an annual basis.
Also, today comedy is dying. It was declining badly in the second half of the 2010s. I think Ted and it's sequel was one of the only few memorable comedies from the 2010s. The start of the decade did have Hot Tub Time Machine, but that was basically "The Hangover meets Back To The Future" but it was still funny.
The 2000s had a shiton of good comedies: Scary Movie, Dude, Where's My Car?, Me, Myself, & Irene, Joe Dirt, Napoleon Dynamite, Zoolander, Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle, Wedding Crashers, Step Brothers, Anchorman, Talladega Nights, Superbad, Borat, Dodgeball, Semi Pro, Stuck on You, The 40 Year Old Virgin, Bruce Almighty, The Pineapple Express, The Hangover, etc. It was a wonderful decade for comedies and caused a huge burnout in the next decade, because of the oversaturation.
The problem today is people are so damn easily offended nowadays and treat comedy like acts of terrorism. The world went to shit after 2012.
