Will This Be As Dark (Literally Not Thematically) As Gareth Edwards' Crappy Godzilla Film?
He's a master of darkness as far as monsters go. Will we be able to see the dinosaurs in this one?

shareI enjoyed his Godzilla film. It took the Jaws approach to the monster and I think it worked pretty well.
The only Godzilla movie since that one that I have been able to take seriously is Godzilla Minus One.
I liked his Godzilla movie too but the humans were pretty boring in it. Except for Bryan Cranston so of course he's killed off thirty minutes into the movie.
shareIt's been a while since I last saw the film but I do recall thinking that Aaron-Taylor Johnson's character was pretty generic.
I think it's a pretty good film overall though and too many people complain about it. I get that a lot of people probably wanted more monster action but that's just not the kind of film it is. If you want that, there is the sequel, King of Monsters, but I think that is a far inferior film to the 2014 entry.

I'd agree which is a shame because the marketing was phenomenal. I still remember how cool the trailers were.
I wanted to like it but thought it kind of sucked, and in fact every film since the 2014 film has been a disappointment. This last one, Godzilla x Kong, was perhaps the worst of the bunch so they seem to be getting progressively worse.
shareI actually liked “Kong: Skull Island” the most so far. It may not trying to be as serious as the 2014 Godzilla movie, but I dug its pulpy retro vibe.
Plus it has incredible action and the visuals still hold up for the monsters. Very few scenes are in the dark and Kong still looks pretty good seven years later.
I also think the K:SI cast is utilized the best of all the Monster-Verse films. Something that bugs me about the this universe is that a lot of the human characters are forgettable. It doesn’t help that they don’t normally stay around for multiple films.
In my opinion Skull Island is the clear 2nd place film. I saw it in the theater and it was enjoyable enough, certainly more enjoyable than anything that followed. Skull Island may be more rewatchable than Godzilla is, now that I think about it. For me at least, it is often the fun, pulpy films that are more enjoyable to go back to over and over.
The films were released as follows:
Godzilla
Skull Island
King of Monsters
Godzilla vs Kong
Godzilla x Kong
And that's probably the order I would put them in in terms of quality, but I really would have to watch King of Monsters and Godzilla vs Kong again to re-evalauate those two and see how I really feel like they stack up against each other. Godzilla x Kong, on the other hand, is the clear 5th place finisher. I was quite disappointed with that one.
I agree on the characters. Usually it's one and done. For instance, every time I get reminded that Millie Bobby Brown was in King of Monsters I am surprised all over again. There is definitely little-to-no continuity in terms of characters carrying over from one film to the next.
Dark as well as dull and boring.
shareI seriously hope not.
Snoozilla 2014 was pure garbage. What a giant borefest.
Crappy?
Godzilla was fantastic.
Just needed more Godzilla.
