I had no idea until I saw this post. LaPointe reminded me somehow of John Malkovich, only about a decade or so younger (Depp is ten years younger).

I just thought it was some channeling Johnny Depp. Never thought he'd be in a Kevin Smith movie.

Yeah, I did not put it together. I just thought I recognized him from somewhere.

I kept thinking "this guy looks like a discount Johnny Depp" just like Michael Parks (Howard Howe) looked like a discount Bryan Cranston.

Totally- I would've never have guessed but my boyfriend, like after seeing him for 2 seconds in the diner scene picked it, before he even spoke or looked up. Apparently he has very distinctive mannerisms and he spotted him right away.
