Based on the Black Autumn Book Series

I started reading them recently and had no idea it was adapted into a show.

I might give the show a look. I don't know about the books, though. I like post-apocalyptic stories, but nowdays all of the books seem the exact same: one or more hardcore, highly trained military veteran survivalists fighting to survive and build a community or to find their family. Older post-apoc books would explore the plights of every-day unskilled survivors in different situations and that was more interesting to me.

I feel exactly the same way and couldn't have said better myself. The market is oversaturated with books just as you've described. They basically all have the same predictable formula and come off as unbelievable and corny. I've started and quite a few of them over the years and didn't finish reading them.

I miss the older ones such as Alas Babylon, Lucifers Hammer, Earth Abides, etc.

I love all the books you mentioned! Earth Abides is a particular favorite of mine. You can tell Stephen King took copious notes from Earth Abides when he wrote The Stand.

I've been working on a post apocalyptic novel for a couple of years now. I'm about halfway through. It's about the picaresque adventures of a teenage boy about 30 years after the apocalypse. It's kind of like "Huckleberry Finn after the bomb." I really should get around to finishing it.

I'm ashamed to say that I've never read The Stand. I respect Stephen King as an author, but for some reason I've never really been drawn towards his books. Pretty sure my dad owns it, so perhaps I'll borrow it next time I'm over.

The premise of your books sounds interesting. I'm not a writer, but I'm assuming it's better to wait for your creative juices to start flowing naturally, rather than forcing yourself to finish it.

Earth Abides is now a series. Loved the book.
