US arrogance ...

It's so very likely that let alone 20's something + american would be in charge of repairing a priceless clock of Paris church.. that was so funny.
But the stupidest stuff was when the bells rang " they havent heard their bells for 250 years ringing".. Suuuurrree.. We have been waiting for an american kid to show us how our cathedrals and churches work specially when those devices are older than their own country :)
Damn them. They can't help to be arrogant in a movie no matter what the subject is; At some point they always end up "better" then anyone else.. Maybe reality that shows them they are so far in the international education PISA test every year forces them to create alternate realities :)

your post is so ironic......

LOL I thought the same thing. The church would have already hired someone to fix the clock and if they didn't want the bells to ring, it would have been arrogant to go against their wishes. Maybe the neighborhood found the bell ringing annoying.

The reason he actually was shown fixing the bell was because the film makers wanted to establish him as a quirky but sweet intellectual. We are supposed to sympathize with him and ignore anything illogical about his actions.

Maybe they didn't have the funds to fix it. There are dozens of reasons the bells might not work other than the church doesn't want them too. Don't be ridiculous.

He was never in charge, he just went round breaking in to old places and fixing the machinery, they stated that quite clearly.

My problem with that scene is the fact that it takes a lot more than some tinkering and cleverness to fix something like that. The clock is probably broken because components have cracked or rotted away. To fix that, you would have to rebuild those gears or pulleys or shafts and sneak them in to replace them. You would also need hoists and rigging to move things around if they are heavy enough. I can't imagine he was sneaking in there with large components and tools and pulley systems to do all this.

It didn't have to be an American that fixed the clock. It could have been any other nationality except French. You see, it was probably very difficult to figure out how to repair, so the French just gave up, which is just another way to say surrender which has been scientifically proven to be the most prominent characteristic of the French besides a lack of personal hygiene.

Sounds more like you have some issues
