All that convoluted backstory...
...but all i really wanted to know was Reddington's real identity.Naturally Townsend shows up just as we reach that part of the story. They have to reveal it next week given that Liz is leaving.

shareRaymond Reddington is Elizibeth's Mother.
shareHonestly that thought rattled through my head for a second while watching it.
shareIt seemed the direction they were heading with the whole "This is a man's world" song playing after the surgery scene. Then a skinny Reddington with wavy short light colored hair.
shareGod i hope not.In spite of all the long winded twisty turny ridiculously dragged out backstory this show has churned out i've loyally stuck with it holding out for an eventual payoff. But Red being her mother all along would be the straw that breaks the camels back. What would come after that.Ressler who turns out to be his own evil twin brother back from dead reveals he is the real father of Liz's baby. That kind of corny twist belongs on daytime tv.
shareThe only reason I would say it turns out not to be the case that Red is the mother is they laid it on so heavy handed in this episode and this show loves to throw in twists. But even if this show does go that way, it wouldn't surprise me if they completely retcon that history again a few seasons down the road. But they laid it on pretty thick. A disappointing pay off for 8 years of teasing, and the payoff for the villain this season was seriously underwhelming.
shareIt was obvious he was the mother from the first (or second) season. i was so surprised when the "fake" mother appeared ... I was like "but but ... it's not possible, Red is the mother, wtf??"
shareThey didn't say it.It was just heavily hinted at it.its such a corny illogical soap opera cliche of a twist. You can change someones sex but you can't completely alter someones basic bone structure.Regardless of his/her age a tall beautiful woman doesn't morph into a short stocky bald man.As much as i love Spaders acting this bottom of the barrel stupid twist might make me jump ship.
shareAgree about the bone structure.
"Regardless of his/her age a tall beautiful woman doesn't morph into a short stocky bald man."
Not sure who's a "short" man ... Spaders is 5"10. Maybe not a giant but far from short ...
But the point is that Red was not seen since his death until he re-surfaces, so the change is not impossible.
Surprising. He always seemed somewhat shorter to me.Still bald stocky with a completely different bone structure.Plus the fact that Liz's mother was suddenly attracted to women after the change. So was Liz's mother always gay/bi and conveniently didn't act on it til the operation.

AMEN! That would be really STOOPID!
😎
Gee I hope not! Cause that would ruin the entire series for me, and I would be forced to hurl chunks!
😎
I sincerely hope not. It would destroy the show.
shareI always thought that Raymond was kind of feminine.
shareDon’t start that BS!!! No one is buying that ludicrous theory. Yeah, we’re in the age which people are accepting certain things but not to the point of stupidity!!!

Or not as it happens.
😎
I suspect that Raymond is going to turn out to be another lover of Liz's mother. As they explained it, her mother was married to one man she didn't love and involved with another who turned out to be a target of opportunity. Maybe Ray is the man she truly loved and truly loved her. He had made it his mission to protect Liz for her mother. Now that he has failed what motivation does he have to go on assisting the FBI?.
shareWot abote the episode where Reddington hallucinates/dreams meeting the Liz mothar in a beach residench when she attemptes suicide. Would that not be proove he was NOT the Liz mothar, him?
