Sometimes I wonder if people even watch these films before asking questions clearly dealt with in the movie, which this topic was.
The judge made it clear - the defense attorney blew it by not asking MORE. The guy answered what his CURRENT employment was and the defense attorney went no further. More on the ball attorneys ask all sorts of exploratory questions in jury selection, but not always. Also, in the movie, it was made clear of the caseload carried by public defenders, too. So it is easy to imagine how this was missed.
The idea that even an incompetent and over-worked public defender would fail to ask about employment is a stretch. It’s a basic question during voir dire
