Do you think its even worth climbing Everest.

I mean considering the amount of people who died there. I mean if i wanted see the view from the Top of mount everest. Google Images has plenty of photos.

True I agree. It's a desirable instinct in adventurers to achieve a sense of satisfaction to gain status in record books. Some will climb such dangerous environments for fun and sport and some for charity etc etc. It takes well prepared routines to finally be fully functional to start the climb. It's not easy as your local national park mountain hike.

No, I'd much rather spend $70,000 diving into the abyssal unknown depths of the ocean.

reply

No, its definitely not worth it.
I'm all for true pioneers who achieve things that no one else has achieved, but everest is now as busy as times square.
There's simply no point.

Only 2,200 have made it to the top and over 200 croaked. Is it worth it? Hell yes if you can make it but is not worth the consequences. Everest ain't amateur hour.

I've done a bit of climbing in the states and some backpacking, nothing of the magnitude of climbing in the Himalayas though obviously. I've dreamed of going to Nepal at some point in my life, but my fascination of ever climbing Mt. Everest has pretty much gone away the more I've read about it. The whole commercial expeditions that overcrowd the mountain is the polar opposite of why anyone climbs or backpacks. We do it to be a part with nature and have solidarity, not to just be pulled along by better climbers with a group full of wealthy snobs. The same people that seem to climb Everest are the same ones I'm so happy to be away from when I'm miles away from civilization. It's a shame, because I think we all have the dream of accomplishing "the biggest mountain on planet Earth", but it's something you should find deep down in yourself to take those excruciating steps towards the summit, not an experience catered to you because of your bank account.

I think everyone has adventurous/dangerous things they consider 'worth it.' My best friend is really into racecars/racing/going fast. I don't see the appeal AT ALL, and he can't understand my draw towards Everest/mountaineering. But I get it. I totally get the urge to stand on top of the world and feel alive in that way. So yes, I think to those who wish to, Everest is more than worth it.
