This shows tries so hard to be shocking and cool. This time they over did it !!! Shock the audience with a huge vagina picture! This is Art ? This is what this guy thinks Art is? Why - other than to shock us the audience - would he have been holding the picture in the back seat of the taxi like this???
Out of respect for the driver when he has to check the rear view mirror ?
The show never shows any restrain whatsoever, which is what makes good movies and shows.
Its all out to be "the coolest" show ...
They HAD to mention Trump so we would know HOW CURRENT it is is.
It is so manipulative !!!
Do others agree? Or will you find fault in my argument ???
Personally, I found the scene hilarious...the look on her face was just classic. I think that the idea of the scene was to show what a jerk the doctor boyfriend is. I don't think anyone believes the story he told Helen on the way in the house...he is a cheat, and the picture was a visual representation of that, and what stands between he and Helen.
And the name of the photographer....Fur Kat....so funny!
I don't get why you are so upset that they mentioned Trump. Trevor was seen wearing a Hillary shirt last season. Are you upset they mentioned "Shameless" too? It is a subtle way to show us that these scenes are taking place in the present versus the other scenes that taking place in the past.
This latest episode is so yuck. None of them are even halfway likable anymore. The two women are mean and vindictive. Noah is somewhere in his own mind. Both of those women were involved in Scotty's death that Noah pled guilty for but yet they have no remorse. When the little girl sees her Mom after so long...it was not believable. That little girl would be a little shy and suspicious of her mom. That picture was just unnecessary. Mentioning Trump was also uncalled for.
That was pretty much the only part of the show I enjoyed. It was hilarious. Helen has always been a pretentious bitch. Now that she is surrounded by her own kind she realizes how ridiculous it is. Just like the giant pussy pic by "furkat". Hilarious.
I remember when Helen was at her shop drunk and high that one episode, before she hit the other car. She was showing some customer a cruet set and said "this will revolutionize the way we eat salad." When the customer walked out Helen shouted that she was an "aging hipster b¡tch!"
The thing is, I think Helen knew the whole thing with the cruet set was ridiculous. She had been invested in her shop and what it was trying to promote, but she was seeing it was all kind of frivolous. So she projected onto the customer.
I don't think Helen is a bìtch, necessarily. But she IS, or was, an aging hipster. And she was seeing that, and so was Noah. About her and about HIMSELF, as her sort of male counterpart. Except he has this less affluent background and he was starting to feel uncomfortable with his association with Helen and her rich family. And he was drawn to Allison in part for those reasons.
Does this mean that Allison maneuvers herself towards the male with the greatest capital?
Lockhart Ranch must have looked like a substantial affluent asset to Allison Bailey. It seems as though The Lockhart Family has a highly recognized family name in Montauk. There must have been a time when Lockhart Ranch was profitable.
When Lockhart Ranch was no longer a business producing ready money - Alison had to take a job waitressing. Allison also participated in The Lockhart Brothers drug business, sold items at farmer's market. It was during this time of Allison's life that she first saw and took notice of Noah. It does not seem unlikely that someone told Allison that the 6 top table she had waited on was Bruce Butler's family. When Noah "found" Allison on the beach, Noah told Allison where he lived. It would be easy for Allison to believe that Noah was wealthy.
Noah sold his book - purchased / rented the property in NYC (the property we see Noah arrested). During this time Noah started having financial challenges. Noah told Allison that they could use the money from the sale of Allison's grandparents' property. Allison did not like this suggestion.
Allison started to become very disconnected to Noah. Noah did not even know that Allison had dropped out of medical school. Noah did not know that Allison was going to purchase The Lobster Roll. Allison decided to partner with Cole and take on a huge shared responsibility with Cole - owning and operating The Lobster Roll. At this time Allison was living at The Lobster Roll - leaving Joanie in NYC to be cared for by Noah and paid Child Care.
Had Cole managed to be in the economic that he is currently in when Allison became pregnant with Joanie - would Allison told Cole right away instead of waiting for two years? Had Lockhart Ranch been making money would Allison have noticed Noah in the manner that she did? Surely, in the years of Allison and Cole's marriage Allison must have come into contact with many men, yet, refrained from entering into an affair with them. Did Cole's current economic status make Allison take notice of Noah?
When Noah is broken emotionally and financially (similar to Cole when Cole was losing the ranch and dealing drugs) Allison tells Noah not to ever contact her.
Everything that had transpired over the last 3 years we do not know. We do know that Allison is back in Montauk. Perhaps Cole finding out that Joanie was his daughter was not enough for Allison to get Cole back. Allison had to become a true victim - broken and making Cole believe that he is the only person that can fix her before Luisa will finally realize that Allison will not stop until Cole is hers (Allison's).
annlevtex, Thank you for the insightful post!

I definitely think Allison was drawn to Noah's sophistication. She had left for college but then returned, and probably felt stuck there. But I really think that had their son not died, she and Cole would probably still have been happily married and the whole affair never would have happened. They still would have been OK financially, even with the loss of the ranch, because she had a very valuable piece of property.
Also, remember she had to stop nursing because she was too traumatized to continue. Again, if not for Gabriel's death, she would have had her career.
Basically, Allison had lost everything EXCEPT the house. She had Cole, but the loss of a child puts a huge strain on a marriage and often leads to divorce.
So no, I don't think Allison intentionally aimed for Noah out of ambition. Again, she was drawn to his sophistication, his education, etc. She was drawn to him being something different from what she currently had. She was unhappy, and she thought if she got away from her current life, maybe she could be happy again.
But it doesn't work like that. Ultimately, she wanted to go back home and help run the restaurant that was a fixture in her hometown. She didn't want to become a different person, or a member of another class.
Is she trying to get Cole back now? I don't think so. She wants to be part of her daughter's life and Cole is on her side in that matter. Which makes sense to me. She and Cole have a long history. He still cares about her. He understands the situation in a way Luisa can't and doesn't.
BUT I could see her and Cole being drawn to each other again. If I were Luisa, that would make me nervous, TBH. I don't like Luisa much but I would get it if she felt threatened by Allison.
I know some people find Allison manipulative. I think she is too, in a way. But I don't think she is calculating or scheming or anything of that sort. I don't think she "set her cap" for Noah. He remembers it that way because it strokes his ego and assuages his guilt. They were attracted to each other. It was mutual and they both played a role in it.
he is a cheat, and the picture was a visual representation of that, and what stands between he and Helen
I agree with KompressorFan.
The picture allowed viewers to see exactly, and perhaps graphically, what stands between Helen and Vic.
When exiting the cab, Vic gives Helen the photograph asking Helen to hold it. The picture seems to also allow viewers to see that Vic is asking Helen to take his personal "luggage."
It seems as though Helen is not over Noah. Helen appeared to be heartbroken when Noah told her not to visit him any longer. It was only after Noah did this did Helen change her mind about Vic moving from tenant in the basement status to live in boyfriend sharing her bed.
When Noah gets out of prison something must happen between Helen and Noah. Something that makes Helen believe that it is necessary for her and Noah to talk about their relationship and the future. In Helen's version, Noah was very coy towards her. Due to Noah's behavior, instead of going back to Noah's sister's house, Helen takes her children and goes home.

I think Noah told her not to come anymore because he realized she was just driving herself nuts over it, and he probably just figured it would be healthier for her to stay away. Also he was probably deeply hurt when he realized his own children didn't want to see him anymore.
No, I think it was a scene to lighten the mood. It was funny. The shock came from the earlier scene when they entered the apartment and saw the paintings.
