Easily one of the worst comedies I've ever seen.

I went into this expecting something at least on-par with Ted (while not being a cinematic masterpiece, it's plot made sense and there were a few laughs throughout). Instead I left wishing I could get my money back. I refuse to walk out of movies; I believe that I can't truly criticize something if I haven't seen it all the way through, but this was a struggle. I'm sure I'll get bashed for 'not getting the humor' and I realize I'm not 17 anymore, but I can't understand how anyone who knows what good movies are can think this is even remotely funny. I loved the premise, but the movie itself just didn't do it for me. I can laugh at the occasional fart joke, but these were terrible. If you're going to make a two-hour poop joke, at least have the decency to write a plot that makes sense. This felt like it was a bunch of jokes that his friends assured him were funny with no one but himself to critique it, then he slapped them all into a movie with a loose plot that he hoped would pass for a movie.

So true. What a horrible movie

If you put the worst actors (excepting ribisi) and worst writers together this is apparently what you get

reply

Ribisi was one of the actors whom I could have done without; never found him particularly impressive. Watching him in the moustache store (in the extras) it's immediately apparent that he needs a script and cannot ad lib.

reply

Did you see Boiler Room or The Gift - I liked him in both of those.

I like what you wrote here.

There is nothing to see here

I agree. Constant swearing is a lame way of trying to make people laugh.

Good points.

At least Ted was really funny, had likable characters and was coherent. This was just swearing, singing and bad acting.

Suggestions?

I know most people on Imdb are full of *beep* and people saying that Ted was a good movie proves this point so much more. Thanks for a great laugh <3

reply

I agree. Ted was just awful. I laughed quite a bit while watching this. A genuinely funny movie without trying too hard. Everything that Ted was not.

reply

i like dark humor, i like "stupid humor, but plain stupidity bores me. it has a few laughs not as much as it should for the movie it tries to be.

not the worst because i saw a lot of them, but this is definitely on a "do not see this crap" list.

MacFarlane is a bad lead actor. 95% of the jokes fell flat. Only one who was consistently funny was Sarah Silverman. I really enjoyed Ted and usually like family guy but this movie was just bad. Mostly, it was just so boring and unfunny. The "cool hip" comedy did not mix with the western setting. Like the Bill Maher cameo, "modern jokes in an old setting." None of it worked.

reply

i usually don't like Silverman, but she was like a diamond shining out of a massive turd in this case.

i agree that nothing worked, yet everything could, no should have worked but was totally ruined at every opportunity. new jokes in an old setting? good idea, but the jokes they used would've sucked in any setting. 101 ways to die? entertaining premise, but they fulfilled, what, 10% of that figure in actual deaths, and spent almost no time expanding the idea. guess there wasn't room for that what with the terrible romantic sub-plot consuming half of the running time. romantic sub-plot? good idea, except at a bare minimum you have to give a *beep* about the characters...

i could go on, but i already wasted a couple hours on this awful, awful film.

I Agree 100% with you !!! The Worst.
It is hard to believe that Liam and Charlize are in a movie of this level.
Not Funny and absolutely boring.
Who should have smoked the pipe of the Indians is Charlize.
Sorry seth, you are not to this business, you look to much for the camera and it's not a mirror :)

I can't believe a movie could be this juvenile stupid and cliched at the same time..THE SAME TIME!

reply

I can't believe that no one has come along to disagree with you yet. That just shows how truly unfunny this movie was. I agree with everything you said.
I rarely feel I have to go back to IMDB to express my views on a film but this was pretty awful.

The biggest positives for me were, Silverman who managed to be funny and Theron who somehow managed to act.

A shocking waste of a good cast and typical of the promise that Hollywood so often shows but doesn't fulfil.

exactly, this is the first time I've felt a pressing, overwhelming need to get on here right after watching a movie and tell the world how bad it is. this movie is so unfunny, so boring, so juvenile, and so clichéd that it's the worst comedy I can remember ever seeing. I think I laughed at good jokes about 5 times. so that's 5/200 joke success ratio. I feel so bad for all the good actors involved in this piece of sh#$ movie. they all should be ashamed of themselves and hope and pray that not that many people see this movie and that this movie goes out of print really soon...

I didn't even chuckle once at any scene in this catastrophe of a movie, and i am not setting the bar high either, i laugh at most humor even the bad one... But this one was just so *beep* predictable it was embarrassing!

exactly I couldn't believe how unfunny it is. I mean at some point you would think my gosh there has to be something funny about it but no, nothing except for like 5 jokes out of 200 that were funny. pathetic movie. and yeah I'm not super critical and hard to please when it comes to comedy, but you've got to make more mature and effective jokes or else no one is going to laugh!
