Basically the same as Independence Day resurgence

Pacific rim uprising was okay. However, it basically stole its entire plot from Independence Day resurgence, which I didn’t think was all that great to begin with. Spoilers ahead..

-both had invading aliens return after a prolonged absence (20 vs 10 Years)
-both had the main character return to the fold after a falling out with the supporting pretty boy, straight laced soldier
-both revealed that there was actually an ulterior motive behind invasions (drilling to core vs igniting Mt Fuji)
-both had a crazy scientist, that was written off as such, save the Day with hairbrained scenes
-both had a final obstacle in the way of an unnaturally large creature to overcome (queen vs fused kaiju)
