It wasn't that bad, but this is, basically, a remake of "Jack" with Robin Williams.
shareWrong. It was based off a book. The author was inspired to write it after she saw a child with the same facial deformity. Her son was scared by him so she wrote a story about what his life must be like. This was explained in a 20/20 interview. No mention of Robin Williams.

shareI didn’t say that. I told you what the author said inspired her. They were not my words but her’s. I have no idea if she’s seen the movie but the illness is nothing new. Her goal was share awareness about the illness so kids wouldn’t be afraid of someone who is different. Even before Mask people has some knowledge about the illness.

Wonder is based off an illness that is limited to the facial features.
