Whats with Disney and light speed?

Before making another film these clowns need to sit down and figure out how their physics works.
TFA: Han bypasses a shield via hyperspace.
TLJ: Purple Hair Ellie smashed a first order fleet with hyperspace
ROS: Annoying Pilot character flies through walls using hyper space, also hyperspace cant pass through cloud.
If cheesy 60s tv shows on shoe string budgets can think about this kind of crap why cant the highly paid asshats at Disney Starwars?

The OT and the prequels set up very easy to follow rules on what light speed is and Disney still couldn't even get that right.

I think it's because there's no real bedrock science or methodology to the lightspeed outlined in the original movies. What do we know about lightspeed from the OT?

1. It's really fast.
2. You have to navigate or you blow up.

It was a tool to go from A to B. I don't know if the books got into it more. That vagueness left it vulnerable to modification to suit the wants of a writer. The same thing happened to R2-D2 (who has rockets boosters, apparently...) and the Force. They're just Swiss Army Knife plot solvers. You wave a hand, you can smash 1/2 a fleet with a hyperspace ram. Meriadoc Brandybuck asks "can we do it again? and you wave the hand again so Oscar Isaac can say, "No. For vague reasons."
