The sequels felt like they were made by a corporation more concerned with their profits and checking off all of the "how to make SJW's happy" boxes.
I used to wonder that myself.
Thought it was a bunch of green screen, CGI, the dark side and the light.
Crazy thing is, it's trash.
The Prequels, the Sequels, all of it.
It's all trash.
I didn't mind the prequels, yeah they weren't as good but they did at least provide some emotional weight to the OT.
The ST however is cinematic garbage, it's fan fiction at its worst. (I know they made money aside from Solo, that doesn't mean the films were necessary to the story and my personal opinion is independent of box office revenue)

shareThis will be a never-ending debate. Overall, I do feel the sequel trilogy were a tad better overall in cinematic quality than the prequels. That said, the prequels at least had a story to tell and did a good job expanding the Star Wars universe. I can't say the same for the sequel trilogy.

Prequels: Good overall story with character arcs, too much CGI, little suspense, poor dialogue, 2 films are PG (there's a reason people like 3 the best)
Sequels: Poor story with little to no character arcs, little suspense, retread of the OT, doesn't understand SW lore or its own universe, excellent CGI
It's funny, the more I watched the prequels, the more I liked them despite how bad they can be. The more I watch the sequels, the more I do not like them.
I so remember in 2015 leaving the theater just mind boggled and asking myself “why is that movie getting such good reviews?” I seriously cannot figure out what people ever saw in it. I realized it was A New Hope 2015 as soon as Poe gave the Death Star plans I mean map to Luke Skywalker to R2D2 rip off

shareI think back in 2015 the public wanted to like TFA because the Prequels weren't as good as the OT, that they just ignored all of the plot holes, lazy acting, bad fight scenes and unoriginal plot (yes it's just A New Hope 2015). I knew back in 2012 that making more SW films would be a bad idea but now it seems a lot of the people who fanboyed in their pants (I'm looking at you Big Bang Theory) are starting to wake up and realize that these new films are cinematic dumpster fires. (this is irrelevant to how much money they made).
shareI think people rated it higher because it is better than the prequel trilogy. Overall the prequels had much worse data when crunching the numbers. In my book the Disney series has been fantastic. TFA, Rogue One, Last Jedi and the Mandalorian all blow the prequels out of the water.

shareThe prequels had a far better story arch, and much more interesting characters than the sequels did. The only thing the sequels did better was the acting. Some of the acting in the prequels is downright terrible. Still, I prefer the prequels on whole to the ST.
shareI'll take the sequels over the prequels. The prequels did have some great moments, but it had even more really bad ones. And there was some really bad acting, which stuck out even more when it was around great actors like Natalie Portman, Ewen McGregor, and Liam Neilson. As bad as Rose may have been in TLJ, she didn't sink the whole movie the way Jar Jar did.
The most frustrating thing about the prequels was that they had the potential to be great. We all knew how the story was going to end, so they didn't have to deal with that pressure and just had to find a coherent way to get there. But it was one bad choice after another by Lucas. In the end, we're left with a handful of great scenes, one "good" movie and a lot of crap.
The one thing I will say the prequels did better was having a clear plan for the how the story was going to go. All 3 movies feel like they were pointed in the same direction and continuing one story. With the sequels, TFA started one way, TLJ went a completely different way, disregarding some of the great things its predecessor had set up, but then TROS doubled back to TFA and continued those plot points while disregarding things from TLJ. I enjoy each movie on their own, but as a trilogy its all over the place.
The sequel trilogy feels like 3 shitty fanfics written by delusional, uncreative, leftist children stuck in adult bodies. Worst part is, they wasted millions of dollars on each one.
While the prequels aren't perfect, I can still accept those as canon for Star Wars. The sequel trilogy? I'm gonna forget those exist.
