John Boyega and no one else. He was so utterly repulsed by the idea of a relationship with her. Clearly that was the only purpose for her character. He was still imagining he had chemistry with Ridley/Rey. They didn't even work as friends.
They may a well have killed off Finn & Rose inbetween VIII & IX and just had a line from Poe saying they were killed in some accident or the 1st Order got them 😊
Off-screen, John and Daisy seem to have excellent chemistry. How would this translate creatively in their character portrayals?
Kelly's character does seem a bit like a forced insert into the story. New character introductions didn't seem to be a problem in the original trilogy - I think this was because they were logically and carefully written and amplified the older characters. Consider Lando and Han Solo relationship, Darth Vader and the Emperor, Luke and Yoda.
I'm not talking about the writing, but her lack of screen time. It's clear her only possible direction was as Finn's gf in the era of ugly actresses, but he couldn't hide his revulsion. So she got a minute.
You already have all the characters from TFA introduced, and you have the OT characters, beloved by the fans. Instead of developing, or using, those characters in any meaningful way, he chooses to add new characters in KMT, Laura Dern, and Benicio del Toro. He then proceeds to make the movie mostly about them, and their nonsense, and completely wastes what could've been good development for the main characters. Not only that, but he also wastes the last time anyone will see Luke and Leia again... ever. I know! Let's have Princess Leia be in a coma the entire film! Brilliant! In the last movie, Rey has watched Kylo-Ren kill Han Solo, and mortally wound Finn... let's start a "Twilight"-esque love story between them! Brilliant! And instead of devloping Finn anymore, I'll just have him follow Rose around the entire movie. I know they have zero chemistry together, but I'm gonna force a romantic angle between them. So much brilliance...
Anyways, to sum it up, you can pretty much blame Rian Johnson for anything wrong in this Disney trilogy. The guy is a two-bit hack, piece of garbage, director. I'm so glad JJ reversed almost all his decisions in TROS.
TLJ is written and directed by Rian Johnson. I think all the creative decisions were his. I think she only cares about the box office, and how that affects her standing with Bob Iger.
