stuff you were half expecting to happen..but didnt

Heard rumours time travel would be used (yeh right) so was half expecting Rey to go Endgame on various key events in OT/PT (maybe this was in the Trevorrow version of IX?)

If not time travel then something like the force vision she was supposed to have in TFA of the Bespin Luke v Vader duel (new filmed angles on the familiar scenes)

Was expecting a flashback scene of the original cast shortly after ROTJ with CG deaging (maybe something like Han and Leia handing over young Ben to Luke) just a way to get the original characters back together for one scene and showing what a Heir to the Empire/Zahn style Star Wars '4' would've looked like had it been made in the late 80s/90s (sort of happened with Luke v Leia duel.. but there was no 1980s Ford or BDW)

Rey to be a Skywalker (a proper one like Lukes daughter) or maybe ObiWans granddaughter ..or maybe a clone of Obi Wan (from when he visited the clone facility in AOTC)

Cameos (proper ones not voice) of forceghost Anakin, Qui Gonn, Obi Wan (Guinness),
EDIT: #ReleaseTheJJCut trending and the original intention WAS to have force ghosts in an 'Endgame' type finale:

Stuff on Darth Plagues (maybe a flashback)

maybe a revelation that Palaptine was in fact the father of Anakin via the force - which would've made Rey an actual Skywalker as well

Rey maybe having killed her parents: there was a rumour a while back that itd be revealed Rey killed her parents as a child force pulling their ship (as seen in TFA) and it crashed? so it mustve been rewritten for chewie but the idea of Rey finding out shed killed her parents (and could've still been a grandchild of Palps) could've tilted her toward the darkside ...then Ben (after hed turned good) has to take her down ..

More Luke (not just a cameo)

Vader cameo

more prequel stuff (Coruscant, ObiWan/Ewan etc)

I was expecting a well planned consistent storyline to all 3 movies with a wire-tight plot that adhered to the established rules of the universe cannon - similar to the flawless Lord of the Rings Trilogy.

I was expecting the original characters to be treated with respect and given dignified heroic send-offs and/or deaths - all while passing the torch to a new generation of well developed likable characters.

I did not expect 3 movies where the new lead droid character would show greater range and out-emote the new lead heroine, to the point that the new droid character was the only lead character to earn my emotional investment.

The comics DO reveal that the Emperor is Anakin’s father. Hence, Rey is related, though not by name until she adopts the name of Skywalker.
